Default O2 Sensor & Air Mass Meter issue

Hello,
I just wanted to share an issue that I had with my X type and how it was resolved.
My car is a 2002 AWD. For a while it had been very sluggish when first started.
It would run but if you accelerated it would bog down to the point where it almost stopped moving.
The only way to overcome this was to wait till the engine had warmed up.
My little code 'breaker' and the mechanics said it was a problem with the lower O2 sensors.
I ordered the sensors and had them installed by my mechanic. I don't have a hoist and as far as I am concerned my days of crawling around on my back under a car are over.
Unfortunately it didn't work.
My mechanic then started a process of elimination. The first thing he decided to check was the Mass Meter or Mass Air Flow sensor as some people call it.
He rang the local Jag dealership and was given an exorbitant price on a genuine Jag part.
Being half a world away I didn't want to order one from Rockauto (my regular go to for parts) and wait for it to arrive, I just wanted it fixed.
So he then looked through his stock to see if he had anything that was similar in size that would fit.
As luck would have it he had a NOS Mitsubishi Triton unit (code MR547077 T).
It fits and the car drives great. Problem solved.
As my mechanic said "that car flies".
So there you have just thought I would share in case someone is having the same issue.

Default Same old . . . same as . . .

Greetings,

Very good! Reminds me that piston rings for Jaguar 3.4L XK engines were identical to our local GM Holden 6s which were far more readily available here in the day. Strangest one I have encountered concerned recent resto on a post-war Daimler, whose crankshaft bearings (journals and big ends) are all identical to a Perkins engine. Former are NLA, but Perkins are everywhere. Owner delighted with 'new' engine! I guess there are only so many ways you can create something you think is unique!
.
Of relevance to this forum . . . rear sway bar bushes for the X-Type = Honda Civic.
Bonus is that they cost pennies, but are of superior material to OEM and include sachet of rubber grease!
For far too many years (~60), we have accumulated hundreds of such but, when it comes to modern electronics, sensors etc many are generic.

Sorta like opening up an IBM 'puter and finding nothing inside made by IBM . . . all Asian OEM p/s, drives, memory and even motherboards.
I guess it prompts us to question why this trend should be any different among car manufacturers.
Three of my modern Jags have the same ZF (German) 6HP26 auto transmission . . . but so do at least a dozen other car manufacturers!

Cheers,

I am with that Ken.

Aussie "old school, get outside that damn box and think man".

Worked for me since I can remember.

I do remember those piston rings, got 2 sets of Holden 6cyl for the V12, cheap as chips of course.

I will find one of those for my Big Block 2.1, there will be room on the shelf.

OK, as said, i will look at one of these.

Took the plunge today, these little electrical items SCARE me, give me a V12 any day, so simple.

Read the codes, ZERO. The engine just had the odd hesitation, and the unwillingness to rev.

Removed the MAF, and noticed oil dripping off the tip. The car has stood for 2 days.

OOPS

Cleaned it up, cleaned it again, and once more just to be sure.

Noted the numbers, so the archives stay active.

Google has any amount, and alternative fitment guides.

It is a 4 Pin unit with a 3 Wire plug.
This is a Dec 09 build 2.1 V6 Auto Sedan.

Refitted, started, sweeter sounding,
