Default OBD scanner that works?

Hi everyone,
I had a (cheap) OBD scanner which I plugged into my X type estate yesterday - and got 'link error' all the time. It powered up but couldn't read the codes.
Apart from the very pricey top end scanners, anyone had any experience of an affordable scanner that works on a X type - mine's a diesel 2.2 facelift model.
Look forward to some suggestions. Cheers!

You need an OBD2 type scanner. I read in some of the forums here Foxwell NT301 & BAFX OBD2 Bluetooth are recommended by other members. But if you want to go high end that reads everything go for iCarsoft JLR version. I have a cheap EDIAG Y-201 for my Ford Escape and to my surprise it worked on my XF as well.
