Default Oil Leak Advice

Hi, I moved my car the other day from the Drive Way and I notices that there was an oil patch on the driveway that I hadn’t noticed before.

I had a look under the Front of the Car to try and identify any obvious leakages and it appears that I do indeed have an oil leak (Picture attached)

I have read on various forums and threads that the X Type is prone to Oil Pan leakages so I assume that this is what I now have (?)

I have a few questions that I hope you can help me with:

1. Roughly how much will this cost to repair?

2. I have a Service scheduled in for just over a months time. Will I be ok leaving in until then or should I get this sorted before? I have checked my oil level and its in between the Min and Max mark.

3. Could this be related in anyway with a fine vibration that I have only between the speeds of 70MPH and 80MPH?

2003 Jaguar X Type 3.0L V6 Sport

Any advice is much appreciated.

Tim, as for the vibration that you are feeling, the leak and the vibration most likely have nothing to do with each other. So, you can relax on that.

As for waiting, that shouldn't be a problem. I would just keep a little bit better watch on the oil level. Granted, a single drop of oil will make a big spot. So, odds are, if the patch isn't too big, then your problem is pretty insignificant.

As for the cost to repair, you will find a wide range of quotes for this. Some shops will "cheat" (I use this term loosely) in the fact that there is a bolt that can not be accessed without pulling out tons of other components. So, what they do is to either 1) drill a hole in the mount for the transfer case so they can access the bolt normally, or 2) they will back the bolt out slightly, use a saw to lop the head of the bolt off so the pan can be removed and then remove the rest of the bolt later (reinstalling a shorter bolt on the reinstall). The guys that do it this way will probably get you out the door for around $300-400 USD.

If you go to a shop that will not "cheat", then you are looking at about $1500 USD for the repair due to the extra amount of work that is required to dismantle the car.
