Oil Leak - What's the M12 threaded hole at the front of the engine?
Hi All,
I've been tracking down an oil leak for weeks now, the car has always leaked since I bought it in Aug 2013.
I have oil dripping onto the exhaust heat shield at the front of the car (Engine Right Hand Bank, Cyl 2,4&6).
My first step was to replace the rocker cover gasket, first time this did not work because I found an M10 threaded hole next to cyl 6 which was leaking oil into the spark plug hole and up ontop of the rocker cover.
I fixed that with an M10 stud and some silicon gasket seal (not sure what that threaded hole was for originally - suspect that there has been some earlier work on the engine???)
The car still leaks but less - there is no oil on top of the rocker cover or, from what I can see, around the new gasket.
However I still have a drip onto the heat shield - by feel I think this is coming from a threaded hole located at the front of the engine pretty much in line with coil pack 2. This appears to be about M12 size.
It's an awkward sod to get to as it's behind the wiring and a rad. hose.
So questions are:
1. Does your engine have anything in that hole like a stud or something.
2. What is the hole for?
3. Any thoughts why I might be seeing Oil dripping from it
4. Any thoughts, if there is something missing, what procedure might have been bodged by a previous owner??
