Outside door handle increasingly inoperative
Hello,
Search didn't turn-up the information needed. My '03 X-Type passenger door handle-to-latch link rod seems to be worn or out of adjustment. I've moved the door post striker a little and it works for awhile but I suspect the rod will have to be replaced. Pushing lightly against the door frame while lifting the outer handle, you can hear/feel the lock release and the door opens but it's a pain. Part number for the updated rod is C2C28890 and it isn't expensive.
AllData says that to replace the rod the outer door handle must be removed and to do that, the door glass and window motor are supposed to be removed, too. That seems excessive to me. Has anyone ever replaced the handle-to-latch link rod without removing the window mechanisms?
I recall reading here that someone was able to bend the rod slightly in place to bring it back to spec but can't seem to locate the post. Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
