Oxygen sensor

X-type 2002 2.5 L
Code reader read P1647. This is bank 2 (nearest radiator) upstream oxygen sensor (on front exhaust manifold).
I replaced it with a generic 'fits x-type' sensor.
After clearing the code, it came back.
So...Is there something wrong with using generic sensors?
Experiences please.

I replaced the ones on my car with a brand name maker (want to say it was Bosch). The big things to keep in mind is that 1) it is from a major manufacturer (preferably Denso, Bosch, or other equivalent group), and 2) the sensor has the wires already made up and not having you splice into the old plug. I can't tell you how many horror stories I have heard from people getting the generic sensors and then having fits trying to get the wiring to work.
The other problem that I have seen is that you have oxygen sensors and then you have air-to-fuel sensors. The upstream sensors are air-to-fuel. If you look on the plug casing, you should note that the plastic is either gray or black (as I recall). If memory serves me correct, the gray is the air-to-fuel sensor, the black is the oxygen sensor. While they perform very similar functions, they are just that little bit different and will really raise hell. That would be the other thing I would verify.

I have requested to return the sensor and I just noticed that a refund has been issued. $US 38 what do I expect for that?
I may try a Denso or Bosch which are still a good bit cheaper ($US100) but I am tempted to shell out for the OEM.(on-line $US 180 dealer price $US 270)
