P0171 still an ongoing issue - autoenginuity output
#21
Thanks for the info on Lesueur, I may check them out depending on what happens today. I cleaned the MAF, but, no change. I was able to see the hot wires with the resistors and that they got clean and shiny. I dropped the car off at Richard's and gave them a new fuel filter to install. They are going to try and hunt down the problem.

I took the Jag to Richard’s auto as mentioned above and they took all day to report 15 trouble codes on the car. I had Autozone scan it two days earlier and they found P0174 and P0171, lean in both banks. The Autozone scan made sense, the shop was full of BS. Did the car go from 2 to 15 codes in a few days? Not likely.
Have I mentioned that I hate shops bc they are stupid and have no ability to trouble shoot? Well, it’s true, and was proved once again. ASE certified mechanics means nothing in my experience. When I got this news on my lunch hour I told them not to touch my car anymore, and, that I would be there in 20 mins to pick it up. On the way I realized that they must have been seeing historical codes. The problem was that they were going to start there and charge me for a fishing expedition.
Anyway, I picked up the car and the limp mode had been cleared by the shop, but it returned the next day. Meanwhile, the car sounds good and runs great when limp mode goes away, which is periodic.
To solve the problem I put in a new MAF sensor and replaced my K&N air filter with a regular paper/cotton filter.
Two things here:
One, I had already cleaned my existing MAF, down to the hot wires with the spray cleaner. No change in limp mode.
Two is that I inspected my K&N air filter to find that it was not filtering much. Light comes right thru the filter and I didn’t see much filter material. This K&N air filter happens to be 5 yrs old.
Finally, with new ordinary air filter and a new MAF, limp mode ceased. The CEL was still on, so I had that cleared with a scanner. I drove the car three days after this to reset the system to P1111, and I went to emissions testing today after work and passed.

So, not BS.
