Is this a parking sensor fault?
X-type 2004 Estate:
Parking sensors work ok except when returning to the car, switching on and selecting reverse as the selected motion of travel, where they start bleeping constantly even if no objects are in the way?, this occurs until the car is put into first gear and driven forward.
Is this normal or indeed a fault somewhere?
Kind Regards,
Steve...

Kolobos, it is sounding like you have some dirt on your sensors which is giving a false return to the computer. If you had a true failure, you would be getting either no beeping at all (indicating a computer failure) or a constant tone for a few seconds after putting the vehicle in reverse (indicating a sensor failure).
I would first wipe off all the sensors and see if that causes the condition to clear. Next, I would keep the engine off and then with the e-brake set, put the car in reverse with the key to the RUN position. this will cause the sensors to become engaged and if you put your ear next to each of the 4 sensors, you should hear them clicking/churping. The one sensor that is not as loud as the rest is your problem child.

Thermo thank you for your reply, that sounds totally feasible and i believe the fault is a constant tone and will get my relative to check this before i purchase the car although they have been wiped already with no change and this is something i could sort when i get it. I just need to know the best place to get the sensor(s)?

Kolobos, check out Nalley Jaguar (nalleyjaguar.com). They are a sponsor here and should be able to hook you up. Their prices are pretty good too. I also use Jaguarparts.com (dealership out of Cleveland, OH). I have had good luck with them. The only "problem with them is if you want the cheap parts, you have to do everything via online. If you call them, then they will charge a slightly higher price.
