Parking sensor switch

Parking sensor switch
Ok folks, it's driving me nuts trying to find out this information and I can't believe it's so difficult. .
I have the reletively common problem of packed in rear parking sensors and reversing lights. (No warning beeps on ignition).
From my searching I reckon it's the switch. This weekend I'll be checking the bit in the spare wheel well for the reported water ingress, just in case. But I suspect I'll be lead back to the switch. (The fuses are good).
My question is, where exactly is this switch and what does it look like?
The bit I thought it was would take a very large, very strong gorilla to remove and looks as though damage beyond dread would result!

Red, I would say to first see if your fuse is good and to also switch the fuse with another good one just to make sure you don't have a fuse that is bad internally. They can be misleading.
From there, if it is the switch, then you are looking at a sensor on the side of the tranny. I don't have the wire colors that you should be looking for, but as I recall, it is a 2 wire plug on the side of the tranny and it is the only one that is there. I also seem to recall it being on the top of the tranny (so you will need to remove the battery), but I may be confusing it with the manual tranny though too.

The switch on the transmission also controls the reverse lights, so if you've no reverse lights I'd look there. If however your reverse lights work fine, then I'd concentrate on the reverse sensor box in the spare wheel well and the wiring to the reversing sensors. Pay attention to the plug connector inside the boot, behind a plastic cover under the boot lock slam (if that makes sense).
