Tesla screen
Hello Dennis. Very cool work you did there man !! I have a 2006 Jaguar Xtype VDP with the regular non touchscreen sat/nav system. Just the basic head unit I guess with the Alpine speakers and such. My question is can I install the Tesla type unit in my car by just plug and play ? I see the new harness that they made. Just wanna be sure that it will fit perfectly and it will just plug and play. No soldering or cutting existing wiring. Please gimme any info u can about this. Also I would want the correct boards on the new Tesla screen so my steering wheel controls and everything else would work with the Tesla screen like it was originally made for our cars. Thx again

Great work, Dennis. For what it's worth, I successfully installed my unit in my 2006 X Type on Saturday. Some takeaways below:
My unit arrived on Wednesday 10 May, having been purchased on Wednesday 26 April from Alibaba. Not the cheapest - $636 USD inclusive of delivery, and I was hit for £111 GBP duty and customs charges when the unit landed at Edinburgh Airport.
On Friday night I spent an hour stripping out the previous stereo and giving myself a clean canvas for this morning. All in all the install took me between two to three hours on Saturday morning, and I’ve attached some pictures for ease of reference. Some initial thoughts whilst they are fresh in my mind:
1. I studied this forum and videos on YouTube before attempting the install: I’d recommend you read as much as you can before proceeding.
2. I don’t have any cameras in the car, or an amplifier in the boot / trunk, which I suspect certainly helps the ease of installation.
3. The trickiest part of all was the physical aspects of the AC: put short, the white plastic casing doesn’t allow the screen to sit flush on the dash. At first I thought it was due to the metal cage around it so I removed that, but it seems to me the only way possible to make a clean connection between the head unit and dash is to remove the white plastic shielding, leaving a bare circuit board. Not ideal, but I’ve stored this away at the back of the stereo alcove out of harm’s way and secured it to the back wall. The AC seems to be working as expected, inclusive of functionality through both the electronic interface in the head unit and the physical buttons.
4. I found that whilst the unit itself sits flush, the placement of the lower two of the principal screw holes is slightly short - meaning the unit can only be secured by two screws at the top. It’s relatively light, so this isn’t an issue as such, but slightly sloppy given the price paid.
5. The user interface feels pretty responsive and no obvious bugs at least at this stage. It’s too hot (not something we regularly say in Scotland!) outside to spend a lot of time on settings right now, but I’ll have another play around this week.
Thanks to all who have posted on this forum - you’ve been a great help, and happy to answer any queries I can.
