Piano Black Dash with B&I Trim Kit

Piano Black Dash with B&I Trim Kit
Well, my black X-Type got a little blacker! I bit the bullet & bought a B&I trim kit from eBay. Mine had Piano Black from the factory on the upper dash / airbag, ashtray, shifter surround and the door panels. So here is before;
And here is after;
So what you see in the pic that's "new" is the center vents, hazard/seat-heater panel, around the touchscreen, the CD player, the DSC button, grille for the cabin humidity sensor, and the glovebox handle.
Also did the door switch panels, the rear cupholders, and a small piece on the back of the center console.
The kit itself covers a lot, here is how it was delivered;
So there are lots of pieces leftover, if anyone's interested...
The pictures really don't do it justice, the Piano Black finish is almost impossible to photograph!
Couple of issues with the installation....I had to drill a hole for the powerfold mirror button;
And, I had to get a black paint pen & do the edges, where you could see the brown coloured adhesive from the trim, and also fill in the gaps around the Hazards/Nav/Radio where you could see the grey trim underneath.
But on the whole, it came out pretty good, I'm happy!
The kit was very thorough, so I had a lot of leftovers...
- Hazard Light Panel, without Heated Seats
- Automatic Climate Control Panel, for non-SatNav models
- Telephone Panel, for non-SatNav models
- Ashtray Panel
- Manual Gearshift surround
- Rear Ashtray Surround & Cover
- Headlight switch surround for those with Manual level adjustment
- Roof console (I can't imagine why anyone would do the roof console)
- The outer aircon vents, and TBH i'm not sure they would look good because they don't sit flush.
Sold em on ebay.co.uk
Checking the B&I website http://www.bitrim.com there is no longer any reference to the X-Type & they only show the pre-facelift S-Type.
Do a search on ebay.com (US site) for Jaguar Dash Trim & you get a lot of hits.
FYI here is the link for the kit I bought JAGUAR X-TYPE 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 DASH TRIM c | eBay
In the meantime I also got a genuine wood Piano Black gearknob made up by a chap in Canada, but this was more for comfort reasons than aesthetics. The machined Aluminium one gets red hot in summer, and like an ice block in winter. The colour match isn't perfect though, the knob looks slightly grey compared to the other panels...but only if you're looking close or taking a photo...

Thanks.
Quality is OK in my opinion. But I think it's easier to match black than a wood grain. Saw on the UK forum that some kits did not really match the factory wood. Typically darker in colour, or the grain itself was different.
Only issue I had, and I mentioned this, is that you can see a brown layer on the edges, which is from the adhesive. You really need to get a paint pen & colour the edges before you install the pieces. Might be a little difficult with a lighter grey colour.
Here's some pics from other cars. I'm not so sure about woodgrain over the control panels, black works, as it does in the XJ, but the wood can get a bit OTT...
You can see the grain doesn't always match up.
Mina Gallery also offers these kits, and if you can get you car to Germany, and money is no object, Arden will also do the whole interior from wood if you want...

Or you meant Woodgrain with black interior?

I would agree that you're crazy
I love stock look. And the reason why I'm gaga over cambos dash is that it LOOKS STOCK!
If you look up the piano black interiors in Jaaags from previous years- this one looks like it came from the factory.
Some of the wood dashes look terribly dated, imo. I also agree with those who've said it's hard to match to wood grain which makes some of those additions look pretty rough.

That's what's holding me back from doing this... I would hate it to look like a hack-job. Gotta be thorough!

Mines not a Sport (it's an SE, but in Switzerland it was called an Executive), so the door trim pieces were there from the factory.
I'm not sure if Piano Black was an option for North American cars? Can't see it in the NA parts catalog.
But it was available in the UK (RHD) and Europe (LHD).
The Piano Black pieces from the factory were;
Facia Panels (around the instrument cluster & passenger airbag)
Front Ashtray
Gearshift surround
Inserts on each door
The pieces from the B&I kit i used are;
Center vents
Hazard/seat-heater panel
Touchscreen
CD player/radio
DSC button
Grille for the cabin humidity sensor
Glovebox handle
Window switches in each door handle
Cupholders in rear armrest
Back of the center console
The leftover pieces from the kit were;
Hazard Light Panel, without Heated Seats
Automatic Climate Control Panel, for non-SatNav models
Telephone Panel, for non-SatNav models
Ashtray Panel (mine was a factory job)
Manual Gearshift surround (mine being an auto)
Rear Ashtray Surround & Cover (mines got the panel from the rear entertainment there)
Headlight switch surrounds (two versions, manual or automatic levelling, didn't use em, didn't like the look)
Roof console (I can't imagine why anyone would do the roof console)
The outer aircon vents (didn't install them, cause they don't sit flush with the facia)
Did you want to do everything in black? or match a factory wood or carbon fiber?
I think it's tough to match the woodgrain (look at the other pics) and the factory carbon fiber will be even harder to match.
You could always cover the lot with a vinyl film, in black or carbon fiber?
