Please help!
I recently purchased an 02 Jaguar X-Type 3.0 from a car auction. When I drove off with the vehicle, i noticed the car had an engine light on. Half way down the street i noticed it started flashing gearbox fault light on the dashboard. Once I got the vehicle home, We used an OBDII scanner to diagnose the issues. Upon scanning the car, it showed many codes such as P0057, P0735, P1582, P0304, P1314, P1316! I became immediatley discouarged!! I took the vehicle to a shop because I knew the owner thru my place of work. He began to lay the bad news on me and he said besides a basic tune up which would be close to 500, It would also need a new transmission. I drove the car home and began doing research on the vehicle. I began to try and address the issues that were in my control, such as a drain and fill of transmission fluid and I replaced the o2 sensor in the Bank 2 lower 2. Once we did that, the issues that are still showing are the Gearbox fault light on the dash and the engine light will show once i drive the vehicle. We plugged the scanner back in and the only code that shows now is that P0735 which is a gear 5 incorrect ratio. From my research here on the forum, Ive noticed nothing good comes from that code. From what i gathered, They all recommend replacing the transmission..... At this point, I really do NOT want to replace that transmission, what shall I do?!?!
Sidebar, I have noticed there is a click noise that sounds every time I release my foot from the brake pedal... I have gathered that it is just an annoyance instead of an actual issue. I have also gathered the J gear shifter could be an issue that can cause the gear box fault light to show... As you can see I am really stuck in between a rock and a hard place!! Please give me some advise as the vehicle needs to be registered by this month and I am pretty sure I will need to complete a smog check as well.

For the clicking sound that is just the shifter interlock that clicks with the brake pedal. There is a micro switch that has gone bad that is located behind the shifter up where park is. That would not cause any other transmission problems tho. So maybe others will chime in with possible fixes or reasons why you are getting the gearbox fault.

Since you changed the transmission fluid does the car shift properly and otherwise drive ok? You sure you have the correct amount of fluid?
It could also be a shift solenoid that has gone bad. Check the j-gate. Does the shifter work nice and tight and click into the correct spot for PRND? If not, that could be contributing to the P0735 code
Has the misfire issue gone away? From the original code it was a misfire on cylinder 4. Did you check the coil and teh spark plug for that cylinder?

The car doesnt shift the best between gears it does feel similar to when a vehicle has low oil, My father is the one working on the vehicle as I am not as experienced as him. The gearshift does not feel tight it feels loose when you go to put it in any gear but does go into correct gear when placed in the spot. I am trying to go to a pick a part today to look for a j gate gear shifter. The misfires are gone and does not throw any more codes for misfires all by changing the o2 sensor bank 2 lower 2.
