Poor fuel economy
Evening all
so my 2.0 diesel X type is a little thristy
I dont have a fuel computer on my car so my calculations are from filling the tank and driving till the light comes on. Im getting 460 to 490 from a tank, so given the fuel capacity from full to light on as being approximately 13.4 gallons then im only getting 34 to 36 mpg.
Considering all my driving is on motorways at speeds of about 80mph should I not be getting better fuel economy ?
The car has been recently serviced and both thermostats have been changed as the car was running cool. This made no difference to my fuel economy.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Steve

Hi. You dont say where you are. Should be in your sig. Having a diesel I presume you are in the UK.
But wherever, you should see a better return on your fuel.
I have the 2.2 diesel which they say is a bit more economical. I get 35ish around town and on a decent motorway run at 75 ish I can and do see 60mpg
Unfortunately I cant suggest a cure for your problem.

Steveshort, just to ask a silly question, when you engage the e-brake, do you get to pull it most of the way up with very little resistance and then only when it is about topped out do you feel something? If so, I would be looking at your back brakes and seeing if you have a stuck e-brake lever. On my 03 X-Type with the 3.0L engine, when I noticed the mileage starting to drop, it was almost always one of the rear calipers not releasing the e-brake, resulting in a dragging brake. But, this was associated with the e-brake lever being very easy to move and then only near the end of travel did I feel something start to engage. You can also try parking the car on an angle and setting the e-brake followed by the car into neutral. YOu can then carefully release the foot brake and see if the car rolls. If it does, this is another signs that your e-brake levers are sticking.
if you need more info on the e-brake levers, let me know. My car loved new rear calipers. I went through about 1 a year.

Hi All,
I have a similar query. I quite liked the look of XF and because the car claims to give nearly 65 mpg ( mixed ) for 2.0 litre diesel Automatic I bought one. I was pretty sure of getting 60 plus mpg because for 95% of the time I drive on Motorways with speed never exceeding 65-70 mph. I never accelerate too much and break gently ( and plan it where ever I can). For last 20 years of driving, i take immense pride in getting maximum possible fuel economy, sometimes 95% of what car companies claim :-)
However, this time around, 51 ltrs of diesel just gave me 560 miles which is close to, 45 miles per gallon, i suppose. For a motorway gentle drive, not sure what else could be done to increase my fuel efficiency. Jaguar claims that for extra urban, i should get 70mpg. I drive automatic and my car is sept 2016 XF model.
any thoughts ???
