power brake booster replacement
Before posting I did do a search, but only found info on the boosters failing, but nothing on replacing it.
Here's how I got here. Wife's car lost a brake line, which took out the master and power booster.
I have two quick questions on removal.
1. under the dash there is a white collar which appears to hold the booster rod to the pedal assembly. Do I need to put a small wedge in between the two slices to remove the plastic retainer or is there another way?
2. To remove the booster does that need to be done with the 4 nuts under the dash as well as the one bolt under the hood? The only other way seems to work your hand around to the back of the booster under the hood and get the nuts there.
For those that are interested in the adjust the push rod inside of the booster I did that first. On mine, I had to bottom out the 7mm adjuster to get my brakes to release. I think that is just a patch, as the brakes did function perfectly, but left me with a low pedal. To throw a guess out there as to why this happens, i am assuming when the brake pedal travels further than it has for the last 16 years it just over extends the rubber diaphragm, and it looses it's elasticity.

Ron
