Pre-purchase checklist
I'm planning on buying a X-type later this summer and have been reading these forums for awhile now. I hopefully plan to take whatever car i end up finding to a independent mechanic to have it inspected before i buy it, but i'll also look out for a few things myself. here are a few things im planning on keeping an eye for:
any leakage around transmission/oil pan/TC/differential
health of the CV boots
any sounds at all when driving, especially a whining sound from the TC
any other specific things i should look out for? I mainly just want to make sure i get a healthy drive train. I plan on getting a TC fluid swap after i buy it for a little peace of mind (hopefully some fluid comes out of it haha). Any other specific tips on things to look at before buying one of these?
note: i already searched the forum for similar posts
thanks

Things to look for before buying an X-Type:
1 Latest model year you can afford
2 An original and/or extended warranty
3 A good Jag Tech
4 Your bank account. Anticipate that this is not some Chevy and price points for parts are higher
5 A survival kit including a blood pressure monitor, good drugs and something to help with the cramps in your face from the more than occassional, long lasting, big a$$ grin you are going to have

I agree with buying the newest model you can as it seems the 2002-2003 models in particular hseem to have more issues, especially rust. Make sure you check for that thoroughly. Also, seems that there is a lot of talk about people that have 2.5 liter engines about the performance being lacking, especially with the automatic transmissions. If a bit more performance is something important to you and you have your sights set on a 2.5 you might want to drive a 3.0 to compare.
What year/features are you looking for?
