Default Problem with electronic turbo Actuator

Hi, been having lots of problems with my X type 2.2 diesel dropping into limp home mode, glow plug flashing and message saying " Gearbox fault " Had faults read by two local garages here in France, where I live, and everything pointed to turbo coked up, did the Mr muscle fix and actuator arm moves freely but still same problem, fault now identified as the Actuator itself faulty. Can anyone tell me if I can fit a new one ?? or do I need to buy a new turbo and actuator that are matched. Need advice from someone who has experience same problems PLEASE !!!

You could either repair the existing actuator, probably a faulty jumper wire internally from body to circuit board, or replace the actuator with a used good one.
When I recently replaced my turbo, I used my old good actuator with no problems.

Thanks so much Paul, That has made me feel much better. I will now go ahead and get my old one repaired if possible and use that, if not I will try to source another. Really appreciate your assistance and advice.

I assume these were DTC P22D3 referred to stuck open secondary turbo actuator or open circuit.

So what actually goes wrong with the actuator ???? I took mine off and its built very solidly and the valve goes up and down with an applied vacuum.

Is it the position sensor that fails or is it the vacuum lines.

I am perplexed as to what the actual problem is with DTC P22D3

The 2.2d uses an electronic canbus controlled actuator, as do all euro 4 2.0d models.
The earlier euro 3 2.0d uses a vacuum operated turbo actuator.

Could I once more beseech knowledgeable members of this thread as to what causes the vacuum operated secondary (fixed vane) turbo actuator to fail.

The actual actuator is purely mechanical and seemed perfectly OK. It does however have a simple position sensor. Is it this that is the "known fault".

Or is it more likely due to vacuum line fault or similar.

Does any member have direct experience of such.
