Problem with RPMs, Braking, Initial Start Up
Hey Guys,
Recently I've been noticing when I drive and am going at any rate of speed, when I start to brake towards the light, as soon as I get to a stop, the rpms drop to 600 for 2-3 seconds, car shakes a little bit, then goes back to 900 and is fine. This happens about 2-3 times in a 2 hour drive.
Its shakes enough for the girlfriend to feel it in her seat also.
I been having to warm up my car, even if its around 50 degrees out, because when i do the first start up of the day, and try to put it in drive the car won't move and has trouble getting gas. (Thinking its the fuel filter.)
Any help is much appreciated, Thanks
- Dave

That sure sounds like a vacuum leak to me. The real clue I think is when you stop - the brakes uses the vacuum boost and draw off a lot of the availible vacuum, causing the engine stutter and low RPM. The hard start/bad running condition likely vacuum leak, too.
Gas Filters are always a good idea to change out, too, of course.
I vote for a vacuum leak. Anyone else?
Loose hose, or that troublesome vacuum hose on the top of the engine, runs straight back under the plastic cover. It seems to be troublesome for everybody - and is an easy find / easy fix. It develops a crack from what I have read, and can be replaced with non-Jag hose for a couple of bucks.
Poke around, you'll find the hose I mean - just right of center as you face the engine, on the top. Squeeze & inspect that first.
Best of luck, keep everyone posted please!
