Question Bout X-type
Ok Im looking at getting a 02 + X-Type but I got lots of people saying their too much money for repairs, parts are like several thousand, their not quality time that they will be shopped most of the time.
I really want to get an X-type im selling my 02 GT to jump into one of these and if you can tell me if its that difficult to maintain one, or the problems with it that would really help me out.
Thank you.

RE: Question Bout X-type
FOR sure there will be frequent repairs. But the 02s are getting so cheap that the value is still there.
The risk is that the dealers are ruthless, they may do absolutley nothing to help you.
If you are able to search the net, evaluate problems and find solutions easily, AND you are able to do the repairs completely yourself, then the value goes even higher.
I have had many issues, never anything that would be inexpenisve at the dealer. I have had great help here, for parts and procedures and I have been able to correct all problems in my own garage. The car seems easy to work on so far. good thing for all the stuff I had to take apart.
If this is going to be your only car, then the risk of having to pay for repairs is higher.
Cars with less than 50k miles may not have had all the bugs shaken out of them , cars over 100k miles will certainly have had most of them corrected.

RE: Question Bout X-type
Well this will be my only source of transportation, I found an 03 with 55,000 miles, maunual transmission, for 13,900 i dont know if thats a bad price.
I am very good with cars, so working on them on my own wont be a problem just wondering about parts, or how reliable they truely are. Because I dont wanna jump into it and be stranded with overheating problem and 1,200 dollar repair . Ive had my mustang got it with 40,000 miles got 70,000 only problem was pulley snapped but I raced the car almost every weekend and i know that Ford and Jaguar are partners so I think they should be quality cars.

RE: Question Bout X-type
oh i did not see that. the 02's had some bugs so i would recomend an 03+. they have seemed to get all the bugs out by then. i have had no real problems with mine. you just want to make sure a dealer is some what close to your home. you don't want to take this car to just anyone for repairs.
the car you found sounds like it is a bit high on price. is it a 2.5 or 3.0? any thing else you can tell us?

RE: Question Bout X-type
lol just don't go in with the mindset of driving the stang when you get behind the X-type....A.) You'll never be fast enough B.) You'll probably blow something up!
Ahhh but the kicker, you'll actually be able to carve through the curves. I've been in a few stangs in my time, and it's just a sad sad sight when you throw those things into a curve.
What'd you do to the GT?

RE: Question Bout X-type
Awesome looking car.. so many options and nice condition. BUY BUY BUY.. i love it..
you might find a lower price.. but a dark coloured stick shift with sport pack and dsc.. and NAV?? no way!!!!!!!! so good.. sooooooooooooo hard to find.
All i see that is not there is no heated front windshield.
not sure about premium sound, Dealer told me that the cargo drawer in the trunk was not fittable on cars with the sub box, but I think i see the sub box in the pic.
Dont miss that car. maybe offer a little less. but that is a great car.

RE: Question Bout X-type
well good luck with it. If you buy it hopefully you are not going to be paying too much for it. This is what i found for you:
http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...c164918%7ctrue
The price above is the suggested retail value of that car at KBB, so it is not a steal... They are selling it 330 dollars cheaper...
When you pay taxes and title fees, the price is going to be UP there... so you are actually going to be in negative as far as the amount you owe in the car in comparison to how much it is worth in the market right now.. (and it is going to be worse if you are trading in a vehicle for it, because then they are going to roll over at least another grand from that...)
SO NO I DON"T THINK THAT'S A GOOD DEAL. I don't know the other guys' train of thoughts. But I figured I would let you know.

RE: Question Bout X-type
This is such a great deal!! I actually saw this one a few days ago, I like to check for manual tansmission x-types on the market just to see what mine would be worth if I happen to sell it.
When I found that X I was like " I need that car!!!" Is the combo that i've always wanted specially the 3.0, manual, and sport.
Does the 3.0 manual really do 0-60 in 6.6 secs like I've read online? That would be so cool!!

RE: Question Bout X-type
lightswitch, that is one sharp car! A 3.0L 5spd and sport package to boot is a hard to find combo. Looks like that car has every option available.
Just for comparison, I bought my 2002 3.0L Sport 5spd with 58,286 miles back in January for $10,800 cash. The car had a couple minor scratches, two or three stone chips, and the right side headlight washer deflector was broke off.Plus my car does not have the Premium stereo or the NAV unit.
I do absolutely love the car and Iget compliments on it quite often. Going from a daily driver Porsche 944S2 tothe Jag I like the torque, AWD, andbetter creature comforts such as heated seats,DSC, and better heatingventilation setup. Handling is pretty good as well. Stock brakes leave some to be desired but some EBC Red or Yellow pads will spruce that up nicely. But then again I am used to 4-piston Brembos.
I would highly reccomend to see if there are anyprevious records of service in the glove box. My car had everything since new and the dealer I boughtit fromdid not know they were in there. Also check for all the manuals. I looked up the booket set w/ leather binder and it was $230!
Biggest things are replace Transfer caseoil, and otheroils if thier history in unknown. Whilelookingthrough my records my car hashad a Thermostat replaced, rear trunk mechanisim replaced, moonroofcables re-adjusted, andfront brakesreplaced. It also had an ECU reflash upgrade early on and scheduled maintence every 10k intervals.
I believe theX-type will give youdependablity, anddecent costs.
I just had my car at the dealer formyXenons pointingdown, turns out it was due to aleft rear headlight sensorthat signals the headlinght auto-level motor. Thesensor backing plate was broke and the sensor was dangling. They are in theback to sense trunk weight and to re-adjust headlights as to notblindoncoming traffic.
My bill was $116. $105 was for 1hour shop labor. They diddo a courtesy checkoffluids, brakes, tires, ect andI got afree car wash.
Biggest thing for me at least is knowing anddiagnosing the problems. If I had know my sensor washanging down I could haveziptied it backjust like the dealerdid! A new sensor is $360!
Hope this helps
