Radiator Cooling Fan Assembly/Shroud Removal

Need to replace my cooling fan assembly and when looking over the JTIS instructions, they're calling for draining the coolant and lowering the radiator. Ha? I don't see why if the shroud unclips and slides out from the top.
Question for those that have tried it, do you really need to drain and lower the radiator in order to get the cooling fan assembly out, or could it be done without?

Hi Spielnicht,
Removing the radiator cooling fans is a job and a half. If I may ask, why exactly are you removing them? Is it because the fan module went bad? Because if it is you can easily get a new fan module and replace just that, instead of replacing the whole shroud. Now, from what I've read the new modules have a different connection to the fans, but they do make adapters for it.
If you do have to remove the shroud unfortunately there's no way around having to drain the cooling system and removing the lower hose.
