rattling noise when i crank up
When I crank my2003 Jaguar X-Typeup in the morning there is a rattling noise that last for about 15 sec. It seems like it happens when the engine is cold but when it warms up a little it stops. When I press on the gas you can hear it rattle too if the engine is notwarmed up. What do you think the problem is?

RE: rattling noise when i crank up
CJR, I would check to see that the proper filter was installed in your car. What can be happening is if the filter does not contain a silicon check valve, the oil drains out of the heads and therefore, when you start up the car, the heads are not properly filled and will cause excessive looseness in the valve/cam area. This will lead to a rattle sound. Once the fluid gets back to all the proper locations, then the auto adjusting portions of the intake will tighten back up, removing the rattle. Much beyond that, more detail would be needed about the type of sound, where the sound is coming from, etc.

Christo, whatever filter you get, make sure that you get one with the silicon valve inside of it. I don't recall the exact filter number, but I put a Fram Tough Guard filter on my X as I recall. A little bit extra, but haven't had any issues to date.
