Rear end drain hole

Hi everyone,
I have noticed on the rear ends of our X-Types that there is no drain hole. While most threads have said you can drain it from the "fill hole", I find this difficult and annoying. I want to drill, tap, and put in a drain plug on the rear end, (following this article, Installing A Drain-Plug In The Differential Housing - Mopar Muscle Magazine)
Now, time for my questions; does anyone know what side the ring gear is on? On pretty much every "American" truck the ring gear can be avoided by drilling a hole in the housing on the passenger side, but is it the same with our X-Types?
Should I drill the hold in the housing, or the cover? What would you guys do??
I really appreciate the advice and expertise of everyone on here and look forward to your replies...
