Default Rear Speakers not working

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 2006 x type. Everything works well except the rear door speakers. How can I tell if it is really the rear speakers or a bad channel in the radio? Thoughts ? Thanks for any help

Hey Redhead, a few questions to help troubleshoot. Is it all stock stereo or does it appear there may have been an aftermarket system in there before? Is it the standard sound system or premium sound system (Alpine Speakers indicated on the grills)? Do you have two additional speakers (6" bass speakers) in the back shelf and do they work? Is it the Standard head unit, the version with Navigation, or a completely aftermarket one?

There have been many posts regarding speakers not working, including mine. It appears it's a common problem.
I replaced all four door speakers with Panasonic speakers and have been happy ever since.
I bet they are blown.

Hi, sorry about the lack of info I'm new at this. The radio is original factory. I have 4 door speakers, again original factory and no rear deck speakers.. I do not have navi system or touch screen.

IMHO the only sure way to determine if it's the speakers or the unit is to pop the door panel off, unhook the speaker wires and hook them to another speaker, any speaker. If you get sound then the speaker is blown. If still no sound it's the head unit. Since the door speakers are separates - at least they should be mid and tweet separates - there's a likely possibility there's a capacitor or resistor (not sure which) and cross over soldered to the positive/negative area on the speaker connectors. If this pops the speaker doesn't give any sound. Double check that you don't have the F/R fade all the way forward though, I've done that before.......

Thanks so much ugotmale, I will try popping the dot panel and hooking up a known good speaker. Oh and btw I also checked the fade, still no sound.

I checked resistance , it should be 4 Ohm, speaker was dead (infinite resistance), I paid $21 for 2 6'5" speakers from Advance auto. Size was perfect, I drilled 3 holes, used the same screws.

Idk about standard audio set ups, but with Nav & touchscreen, there may be one other thing to check. In the menu there is an audio check that isolates parts of the car to (test?) speakers, i.e. front, rear, all, etc.
