Default rearview mirror

I have a 02 X type, 3.0L. The auto dimming rearview mirror fell off the other day (101F) and I need to know how to reinstall it. Anyone got any info? I would appreciate some help.
Thanks,
bclark

The ring around the sensor (metal) that mirror clip onto and mirror. The only thing holding it up was the wires that run into the overhead console.
There is a rubber ring that the metal ring adheres to. The car has auto wipers and auto headlights that are controled through this sensor.

Put up a picture so we can see exactly what came apart.

Hells bells, we are around 105deg F and mine fell off yesterday! First sign was the wipers coming on in blazing sunshine, called the place that put the screen in and they say it is a 5min fix and just to bring it in.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I would call my local auto parts store. I am sure they carry a repair kit or something like... do it yourself kind of thing.

Hope that helps!

Well it didn't go too well.they stuck the support back to the screen and said it was good, within an hour it had fallen off again,so back we went, they tried another adhesive but that failed also. Now there is a new sreen ordered for Monday as apparently the mirror mount comes attached from the screen manufacturer.

if the mirror came apart from the mount at the windscreen then you"ll need a new mirror assy
ive tried a few times to fix this with no success

Thanks for the input, I ended up calling the Jag dealer/service dept. and they told me to take it to a local auto glass company. They glued the ring back on and taped it to the windscreen.
Told me to come back in 24 hours and they would reinstall the mirror. No charge.

I will let you know how it works. I believe they used the same adhesive that they glue windshields in with (Urethane?)

Well it was tuesday when the new screen was ready, I took the car in and about half an hour later they called to say it was done.
Seems the foreman took a look and reckoned the other guys were tossers, and had not cleaned everything up properly, he did this and nailed the ring on with loctite windshield glue and so far all is well.
I would have liked a new screen though

.....and had not cleaned everything up properly....
Anyone else with this problem take heed. Glass has to be immaculate for adhesives to work.

Thanks for all your help. The auto glass company the local Jag service department reccommended reattached the ring. I went back 24 hours later and the technician replaced the mirror. It has been a week with temperatures in the 90's and bright sun (interior temps up to 180F) and she still hanging in there. The sensors are also operating properly.

The best part - no charge. Sure beats $650.00 for a new screen.

I hope this helps, the adhesive was a urethane windshield adhesive.

The stuff used by professional auto glass shops is Speedgrip Urethane adhesive. That's the only thing that secures the ring to the glass.
