Recommendation for Service/Repair manual for 2000 XJR and '04 X-type?
Does anybody have a recommendation for a decent repair manual for a 2000 XJR and a 2004 X-type? Something that would help me do as much of the routine maintenance and smaller repairs as possible? I've seen the cd's on ebay, but I thought I'd ask for opinions before spending my money.
Also, for the XJR, is there any way to learn the service history of the car?

hi,
the CD's on ebay are quite good, but they can come with different amounts of info, pick a seller with good feedback with regard to the item you are buying, i used to use one, but i moved to an iMac, and it wont run on it, lol
with regard tot he service history , try and find the original selling dealer, they should have all the original info, and if the car had been serviced by Jaguar ( even a different dealer ) they should be able to find the records, they might have contact info in the owners manual pack, if you have it......
i got a printout from my local dealer, it detailed all the cars specifications, service history and any TSB's that had been carried out, and they didnt charge me for it , you can also aproach Jaguar Heritage here in the UK, and get the original info on the vehicle, bt that will cost money

I have used alldatadiy (http://www.alldatadiy.com/) since I bought my 1999 XJR 9 years ago; costs less than $30 per year for a subscription. While not utterly comprehensive info, it has much more info than my limited mechanical skills allow me to use. Very helpful, IMHO, for all maintenance and basic repairs - and has all the TSB releases updated regularly. I have yet to find a gap in their database for anything I needed to do.
(I have no affiliation with them, just a well-satisfied subscriber).

I got the JTIS manual from "electronicmanuals.co.uk". You can buy the cd from them and they'll ship it, but what I actually did was download the elctronic manual. It's a large file (about 800mb), but it worked out nice. You basically just mount the virtual cd file, and voila! No waiting for the mail, just waiting for the download (about 1/2 hour). Cost was about 20 pounds or $30. For my purposes, the JTIS manual has been extremely helpful.

Ok, good suggestions all... I'll look at each option and see which one looks like the best route for me. I've been less than impressed with the Haynes/Chiltons stuff over the years.
Thank you! This gives me a lot to work with.
