I just ordered Goodyear Assurance TripleTreds (P205/55 R16) as the replacement for the stock
Continentals. They have excellent reviews across the board at Tirerack. Will let you know how they work out.

Well, the GoodYears are proving to be an interesting experience. I have 1000 miles on them now, and obviously we'll have to see how they do at 10k or 50k, but so far my impressions are:

1. They certainly grip much better than the OE Continentals (although the Contis had 33k on them when I bought the car)
2. The car feels more stable at the right psi, BUT;
3. Getting the right air pressure is a trial/error thing with these. The Jag figures of 32 psi for up to 100mph create too much resistance and noise with these tires at high speed, even at 90mph. The 38/35 suggested for above 100mph makes them unstable and jittery on the road. The best compromises I've found so far are 33/33 or 34/34. the Continentals weren't so sensitive to slight differences in air pressure.
4. Excellent traction in rain. Incomparable to the old tires.
5. They're almost 50% more silent than the Contis.
6. Drove in light snow, no problems, but the deep snow season in upstate NY is just over so we'll have to see what happens next year.

Just watched an old episode of Top Gear earlier and they were testing the Ferarri F430................some machine!!
Anyways JC is goin on n on about the options list which is extensive to say the least.......blah blah blah
He asks the Ferarri test driver what he thinks...........he says " When you buy the car new it comes with Bridgestone tyres as stock, tell them to take them off and fit Pirelli's"
Hows that for a recommendation?.............Ok so its not a Jagaur X type, its a Ferarri for gods sake!
I've been a fan of Pirelli's now for about ten years, personal experience over approx 550,000 miles is what I base my opinions on.

heheh

I like Pirellis too, used to have them in Turkey and Italy on my cars. But in upstate ny with all the deep snow and the frozen roads, I haven't seen a an all-season Pirelli that can handle everything thrown at it, don't have the energy to go summer/winter dedicated tires, so I'm stuck with the best all-seasons I can get for now...

Hey Mac..............I've talked with and seen posts by quite a few American / Canadian members re summer tyres / winter tyres.
I was amazed at how many actually have winter rims and tyres for the snow and ice etc etc and then bring out the best rims and tyres for the summer. Quite costly I woulda thought?
Although I spose a ding here or there on your good rims / tyres in the winter would offset that?
Maybe it'll catch on over here............who knows?

Hey there Jim surprised you guys don't have two sets of rims over there? We didn't have that horrible winter over here and our salt from the roads hit my rims quite horribly! The front rims are worthless now, I have to get some different rims not only for this summer but for next winter! I've been watching ebay for some cheap aguilla 17's to replace the current 17's that suck!
My personal preference for tires is to bfgoodrich and toyo. The cost has been right, wear has been awesome, looks are good. One tire I don't think I'd ever buy again is hankook. I had a set of ventus 18"s and the tires were horrible!

I dunno Aquill, maybe there's a few here n there.........not any that I really heard of.
Our winters not that bad............I try n keep mine in best condition and wash the car (paying special attention to the rims) around 3 - 4 times a week.

My dunlops suck a$$. even aftera road force test/rotation, they still make noise. I can't wait to get new rims/tires.

From experience, which tires are the most quiet?

hey jim, well, having 2 sets of wheels/tires is costly, at least by my standards. that's why i keep only one set, and need an aggressive all-season that can handle not only rain, mud and light snow, but also deep snow and ice as much as it can. if i had 2 sets, i think i'd go with pirellis for the summer and some sort of bridgestone or continental for the winter.

dunhill, the goodyear assurance tripletreds seem to be good in terms of noise so far, but as we were saying, i'll need to wait until they have more miles on them to see if anything changes. if silence is the most important one in the list of priorities though, i've read good things about the goodyear comfortred on tirerack. some michelins got good reviews on that too. just do a search with noise level/comfort as the most important thing to look for, and they give you a pretty good list.

I hear what you're saying Mac...........its an expensive solution to a problem in my mind, but, not a bad one if moneys no object I guess.
Re the tyres - Well, living in Scotland, we can literally get 4 seasons in one day sometimes. That means nice dry conditions, then wet slippery greasy roads ( a high percentage of the time) then snowy, ice covered roads littered with salt and very windy conditions too.
All of the above combined with the fact that we (generally) only use one set of rims n tyres for our cars............so basically, what you've got is what you've got!
Obviously then you really do need to make the best possible all round choice for grip (wet and dry) tyre tread patterns for dispersal of water during heavy rain and extreme wet conditions and tyre life, as well as road noise etc etc.
Pirelli's win hands down for me every time!

Dunhill!!! - Macs right though, I believe you can visit, say Tyre rack for example and input what is important to you when purchasing a tyre and it will throw up the best available options to you. Then all you have to do is pick one............lol

Good luck

Here use this link or copy the link and paste it in your address bar and search through these. Not sure if you wanted winter snow or summer tires dunhill so it includes all. Choose a particular tire you like or many tires and compare all of them by price, tread and weather.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...;x=63&y=10

Here's a link for some that I narrowed down they have the ratings listed by a 1-10 scale and every part of the tire is rated whether it by light or deep snow rain, whether they'd buy them again. The kumho ecsta are extremely inexpensive and to me seem like a good deal. I deleted the more expensive tires but they all had similar ratings. Also they put the noise comfort of the tires. As jim said the pirelli's were quietest!
