REMOTE CAR STARTER's?
So I called Best Buy for a remote car starter installation. I found online a starter package (Viper brand) for 99.99 with basic install, good deal, right? Well I called on it to schedule the appointment I asked if there would be any additional costs? He told me there would be since I owned a Jag. He needed some kind of connector and told me the labor would be more too since its a Jag. The end total went from 99.99 with tax to 349.99!!! Has anyone installed a remote car starter? How complicated is this process for a jag? He also said he needed a special connection for the jag to hook up the remote car starter...what is this? Is this a universal bypass? He said it cost 100 dollars? Thanks for all the help.

I would expect an up-charge, not "because it's a Jag", but due to the security system - the fact that it uses a programmed chip in the key requires some extra parts and wiring to allow the ignition to work. This aspect isn't any different than if it were a cheap Ford. Call a specialty shop and see if you get a similar answer and if that's the reason.

I can't speak directly to putting one in a Jag, but I worked for a few months at an independent stereo shop in Michigan's upper penninsula that installed lots of remote starts. We sold viper and at the time (late 08) the cheapest 1 way setup was $150 installed. Luxury cars do tend to have some different issues as far as wiring things in, so I could see the labor going up pretty easily, and it wouldn't surprise me much if there are some other modules required. I'd agree with RudyF6, call a specialty shop and see what they say.

This is only a hunch but I'd venture to guess there isn't a car on the road that qualifies for the $99 installed remote. It's a ploy to get people in the door to upsell them.
On a related issue, my 05 X is the first car in a long time that doesn't need to have the brake pedal depressed to start the car.

Standard practice for Best Buy. Its called bait and switch. When I worked at a Best Buy part time (2nd job). They would put items "On Sale" that were almost out of stock. We were told that when customers came in looking for the sale item, that we didn't have, to suggest a more expensive product. Worked about 90% of the time and brought in lots of traffic.
