removing front bumper?

RE: removing front bumper?
I bought my Jag at Carmax because I got a great deal since it was a 5-speed and tried to bring it to Jag- they didn't like that. I guess if you buy a car from them they pamper you. They didn't profit off the car so I guess they don't want my business. Or maybe they were having a bad day, I dunno? I don't really hold a grudge, I guess I can't since Jag dealers are few and far between.
Perhaps I'll give them another try based on your recommendation. I need a few bushings to send to a friend so I can get poly versions made...

RE: removing front bumper?
Yeah I didn't have buy my car from them I just went and talked to the parts guy....I am 22 and he was totally cool to me even though I was just asking him stupid questions like about umbrellas and the new car starter system they had just gotten...oh yeah and about touch up paint...every dealer has been different but its funny that scuba went to the same one...we haven't had that kind of situation yet though everyone is so spread apart from each other....good luck with the mods tokay...I'd imagine a tranny will be much needed soon as well!
Hey scuba why didn't you buy the extra warranty through jag if they were going to help you out like that?

RE: removing front bumper
Jessy,
I noticed you were left high and dry on instructions. First, you really should download the JTIS manual. This is the service manual fro your vehicle and the information is located in it.
Here are the instructions
First remove all the screws to the "under tray"
Now bag those loose bolts and remove the tray
Next remove the "Wheel Arch Liner" bolt
Located just inside, toward the front, is a bolt that holds the bumper on the side. Un bolt this one bolt.
If you want to Completely remove the bumper Disconnect the Head Lamp wiring harness
If you are equipped with Head Lamp Washers then also disconnect
Move the washer forward
Removing the Washer
NOW for the final bolts and removal
Pop side loose
This is very easy to remove. Try not to "Flex" the bumper too much or you will end up causing minor flaws in the clear coat and it will later begin to chip off or peel up.
I do not bother removing the wheel arch liner. I gently flex it out enough to get my hand and wrench to the side capturing bolt. There are two bolts in this area, be sure to un-screw the correct bolt.
NOTE: This is how I remove my bumper. JTIS will do it a little differently.

Headlamp adjuster tap repairs
I took out my headlamps this past weekend to try to repair the adjusting tabs inside. I was shocked at what I found. There was really nothing to repair. I found small broken white plastic pieces inside the lamps. I think I need new lamps. This is a very poor design.

You can get the headlights out without taking the whole bumper off and just removing all the bolts on the upper half, but taking the bumper off is really simple, and if you have really nice paint, taking the bumper off first saves you from accidentally messing up the paint.
And finally a decent way to repair broken adjusters, mine have been broken since I got the car haha. 60 bucks to fix both lights is much better than 150 or more for one headlight, with crap factory adjusters, so thanks for that link.

Throughout this thread people are calling the bumper cover, the "bumper". These are two completely different things with totally different jobs. One is made of plastic, the other is made of steal. Just saying..
Let's keep it real on the Jaguar forums

Well if you want to get that technical the plastic cover is the fascia and the steel "bumper" is the crash bar. haha. OH and taking the fascia off is part of taking the crash bar off haha. Fascia can also mean the decorative pieces that cover the dash too. There is also a foam bumper between the plastic and steel.... words can often confuse and have many definitions, its contextual meaning that is important. Of course I'm just intentionally being difficult to have a little fun haha.

Ha ha Justin! In that case, let's rename this thread "Forward Crash-Bar Fascia Disengagement & Removal"
My concern is what if some guys from the Mercedes forums come over here and start making fun of us citing our syntax and semantics. What then???
As for the headlight adjuster repair, the kit I got didn't have the socket for the vertical tip/tilt, it had the ball piece and some other slider pieces, but not the socket and my socket was toast. I ended up filling the socket with RTV and sliding the ball end into it and letting the adhesive cure. No adjustment available now, but my headlights point straight and level.
I took a bunch of pics and uploaded to the thread linked below if any are interested.

I was actually looking at the older 540i before I got my x type, and while I loved the idea of a v8 and 6 speed manual sedan, they are just so boring to look at. Every time I see one I am thankful for my lovely x type haha. I'm sure with the XE R coming soon more and more BMW owners will being driving Jags haha.
