Replaced Timing Chains and Won't Start.
#21
Hello gentlemen,
We opened the timing chain compartiment again to look for the CKP pulse wheel sensor and how it was mounted.
It was NOT installed correctly.
So now we installed it with the missing tooth alligning with the crankshaft keyway. the teeth facing outward.
i was so happy to see that that pulse wheel was not installed correctly, we found our problem. (most likely THE problem)
we still have to get her to start, but i think it will run.
with a little luck, i drive my Jag this weekend.

Hello gentlemen,
Well,
We did replace the timing chains correctly,
The CKP pulse wheel was indeed put on in the wrong direction.
I had to lign up the missing tooth with the crankshaft keyway.
So after closing the engine and placing everything back, i turned the key and the engine started. without hessitation. it runs!
That feeling of euphoria left almost right away.
The knocking sound this HOrrible sound is still there.
so the problem we had in the beginning is still there, replacing the timing chains was not neccescary.
i drove the car to a well known mechanic to ask what it was.
he said: it is a spun rod bearing.
i showed him all the old rod bearing, because we did change them.
i know that some of them look bad and worn in the picture, but not that bad right?
awell what do i know..
The mechanic looked at the outside of the old rod bearings, something we didn't do.

Jaguar Xtype 2.0
Hi guys, I am having a challenge getting my Jaguar X-type 2002 V6 2.0 won't start after i replaced the timing chains and tensioners.
Here is some more information
the car cranks, but it wont fire.
the fuel pump works, we checked by pressing in the button on the fuel gallery. the fuel squirted out.
the sparkplugs tested for sparks, they give a spark.
The battery is a 12v 68a, we jumped it just in case while trying to start it.
the water pump is replaced OEM
the gaskets were all replaced
the chain markings were aligned on the crankshaft....
Had someone come and do the diagnosis on it today but still motor won't run. Print out said crank position sensor and variable valve sensors 1& 2. Pulled those off another motor that starts but still it coughs and splutters when you start cranking.
Where could I be going wrong?

When you set top dead center (TDC), were both valves shut or was one of them open? It is possible to time the engine 180 degrees out. YOu do not mention the timing ticks for the camshafts. I cannot imagine that you got the crankshaft gear out of alignment as this has a missing tooth that tells the computer where TDC is and if it is off by say 60 degrees, that would cause the car to not run.

A mechanic who deals with Jaguars locally, said I should count 16 links from dot on inlet to dot on outlet, then 25 from outlet to mark on crankshaft. That's for first chain. I then count 16 from outlet to inlet and 25 from inlet to crankshaft for the second chain. I used this method after the first method in online manual had not yielded results
