Default Reprograming locking with key FOB

03 x-type

Statement of fact:

When I have the drivers door open after I leave the car and I press
the latch to lock the door before closing the door, the latch goes
into the lock position for a second and then pops back to the open
position. Also if the drivers door is closed and the rear door is
open and I press the fob and then close the rear door the car is
not locked. I would like to lock the car with the fob while the
rear door open so I can remove items from the rear and close the
door so the car is locked. Once my hands are full of packages
it is a royal pain in butt to have to close the rear door and then
empty my hand to press the fob.

Question:

Is there a way to close the locks while the door(s) are open so
that the car is locked when the door(s) are then closed?

In other words does anyone know how to reprogram the computer and key FOB so Ii can lock the doors while sill open ?

Thanks
Double Tap

Simply put.....No...
The door lock is designed to prevent you from locking your keys/family members in the car.

Without reading what Race wrote, it was exactly what I was going to say! I know that this feature has already helped my wife out quite a bit as she is used to locking the door without checking her purse for the keys! It might be annoying that you have to lock the car after the doors are closed, but think of how annoyed you'd be if you locked the keys in the car.

I also think it's part of a safety feature that can't be overridden....

Good job BO! I think that's what he was looking for! I also noticed yesterday that if the front-passenger door is closed, and you reach over and lock that door, then all of the doors will stay locked even if the driver side door is open!

Tried this and it worked, (using thekey to lock the car with the rear door open) however it is not as convenient as having the doors open and pressing the fob and locking the car as I can with all of my GM cars and trucks. As a point of information you can't lock the keys in the GM vehicles if a key is in the ignition. If a person is so foolish to take the key out of the ignition and and not take it with them, then I have no sympathy for them locking the key in the vehicle.

I also tried locking the car by using the lock on the passenger door with the rear door open and that did not work.
