Reversing lights / rear parking aid not working
Hi, I have a 2009 x-type 2.2ltr Diesel manual estate, with front and rear parking aids. My reversing lights and rear parking aid have stopped working when selecting reverse gear.(No beep or light on switch inside car.) My front parking aid works correctly when operating switch inside car (light on). Fuse F34 is good, so do I assume the reverse switch may be the problem?. If so is this switch easily accessible.

Hi Jasper, welcome to the forum.
The reversing light switch is located on the top of the gearchange bracket.
To access it you need to remove the airfilter box and you will then easily see it.
You can test it by disconnecting the plug and bridging the two pins with the ignition on (but do nit start the engine) and selecting reverse gear. If the reversing light now illuminate then the switch is faulty and easily replaced. This will also correct the reversing sensor problem.

Jasper, like Rchiv stated, your first step in isolating where the problem lies is by unplugging the switch on the top o the tranny and shorting the two pins together with a small piece of wire. Having the car in the RUN position (no engine running) will allow you to do the testing in a safe manner. With the wire installed, you can look at the rear tail lights to verify that your back up lights work and I would also say to put your ear next to all 4 sensors and see if you can hear a chirp/squeal from the sensors. If you have the windows rolled down, you will probably also be able to hear the system sound as you put your ear near the sensor.
If things are still not 100%, then this will also help you narrow down where the next issue lies.
If you need more help, let us know. You are not the first to have a problem like this.
