Selecting Gears Problem
Just got my first Jag, I love it, it is an x type manual 2099cc 2004, however it come with a problem, but the price was so good I took it with the problem, couldn't help myself, always wanted one.
The problem is when changing gears it is hard to do going up the gears, and coming down is even harder, you have to slow down much more than normal to be able to slip it into gear and even then it feels like you are forcing it. When the car is not moving it will go into all gears with no problem.
The person I got the car from said the gears have been checked and no problem found?????????????? is it the clutch, I hope there is an expert out there with an answer.
I will love it even more when fixed,

Any work needing on the jag requires lots of $$....
I recommend the dealer, or a local transmission shop that specializes just in transmissions.
My suggestion would be to try and find a fairly new but junked x type (2005-2006) that was totaled and see if the salvage yard can sell you the complete tranny.
Cost for cost, it will probably be the same (rebuild vs replacing entire unit), however, you're most likly to get the most bang for the buck this way, and a better warranty.
I personally wouldn't trust just anybody....if you have it rebuilt, ask what their warranty is like, if they say 1 month, find a new shop.
good luck....

In order for them to replace the sync gears, they have to completely remove, than tear into your gear box like a bunch of wild angry apes. They have to find the parts, which i imagine jag is the only place to get them, costing an arm and possibly one of your kids for a down payment, than they have to put it all back together. Hopefully the shop has some experience in performing this intrusive surgery, and if done incorrectly, will cost you even more $$ to repair, which is why i said to find out about warranty, and many years of pain and suffering...if done correctly, you'll be happy for years to come.
If you find one from a salvage yard, (ask your shop if they can do this), it's a matter of just swapping the entire tranny....and you possibly being back on the road the same day.
Either way, it'll cost.
Bottom line, find a good shop, confirm problem and take it from there.....hell, might be something as easy as a throwout bearing!
