Default Shifter does not want to move out of "P"

Hello guys,

My shifter feels like it does not want to move out of PARK. It will eventually do it, but I fear I am going to be stranded one day. I have tried to see if there is a switch on the brake pedal but I am not sure of what I am looking at.

Any help greatly appreciated !!

The transmission selector has an Interlock Solenoid. This prevents the transmission selector lever from being moved from the PARK position unless:

1. the ignition switch is in ON position
AND
2. the brake pedal is pressed

The Lock is controlled by an input from the ECM via the CAN bus.

Interlock Solenoid failure on other Jaguar models is not unknown. Members with this model will be able to advise if this also applies to the X-Type.

If I hold onto the shift lever when I put on the brake, I can feel my solenoid through the shift knob. It feels like a little "click" or maybe a sharp little "thud". Sometimes I can even hear it click.
Try to sense that next time. I guess when it is hard to pull out of park you step on and off the brake pedal a few times. If not try that. Hold the shift knob and try to feel the "click".

Just in case it does go out on you. Keep a long skinny screwdriver in the glove box.You can by pass the switch. with the ashtray cover up put your fingers on the top of the shifter bezel and pull up removing the wood bezel. on the left side you will see a gap between the shifter and the console. With a flash light you will see a plug about 2 inches down from the center of the shifter. take your driver and flip it(foot on the brake). This will get you home so a tow is not needed. I will try and get pictures for you posted.
