Shifter won't go into park
I have a 2003 X-Type with the 2.5 automatic. Last night when I tried to put the car there is resistance on the shifter and it pops down to reverse. If I put the car in reverse there is no power to the wheels. Drive seems to work with problems. I had to hold the shifter in the park position while I removed the key. There was a rapid beeping for about 5 seconds before the car became silent. I have the parking brake on now. Any ideas?

The first thing that I would try is adjusting your shift cable. If you look at the trans where that cable connects(under the car) there is a shield with three 8mm bolts. Take the shield off and you'll see the cable and there will be a 8mm bolt going through the cable. Put the shifter in neutral(they make a tool to hold it there, but you can have someone hold it). Then loosen the bolt on the cable. I usually shake the cable a little with the bolt loose and the cable adjustment should move to where it needs to be. Then just tighten the bolt on the cable and you should be set.
