Should I Buy a 2005 X Wagon 3.0?
Hello everyone-
I'm looking for some input or feedback. I'm thinking about buying a 2005 X Type Wagon for my wife. The price looks good ($14,000) and the car has 31,000 miles on it. One owner carfax that looks good.
I have done some research on line about reliability and find it a mixed bag. The car will only be driven about 8K miles a year...
Anything I should look for on the car? Am I going to have to service it a lot? How reliable can I expect it to be?
Thanks for any help!!!

You don't see too many wagons in NA - would be cool to have one no doubt. A used car is always something of a gamble, even if outwardly it looks fine. The low miles on the one you are looking at is a plus. Any type of warranty?
By 05 most of the teething issues had been worked out. You can ask your local Jag dealer's service dept to look the car up in the system and perhaps gain additional info about the car's history.
Reliable as an Accord or Camry - probably not, but won't bore you to death either.

If this is a car you saw online and the Car Fax looks "clean" that might not tell the whole story; like if noticable bobywork was done, how good the repair was, etc. So, if this isn't a local car and you haven't seen it yet, maybe ask more questions and get more detailed pictures. Also check what options packages the car has (easy enough to check elsewhere). A loaded car is obviously worth more than a more base model. Check when the warranty runs out and check if the warranty has been extended.I f it's a Jag dealer maybe negotiate extending the Jaguar Select into the price. I don't know where you are located zam, but used X-Types (and cars in general) seem to be a hard sell for dealers, so negotiate hard and I would bet you could even improve on that price. Biggest thing is take your time and do your homework BEFORE signing. There is a ton of info all over this site to help you in finding the strengths and weaknesses of these cars; take advantage of it! Do that and you'll be rewarded I'm sure. Good luck!

I second the carfax issue brought forth by Alphadude. I had looked at a "carfax clean" used car before - no history of repairs. When I examined the car, I could see that the drivers door had some clear coat peeling. Once I looked around the inside of the door frame and door, it was obvious the car had been in a collision of some kind. Woudn't have known without an in-person look around.
