Should I take it to a Jag dealer for repairs?
I just got a 2003 X-Type 3.0 130k. Its in immaculate condition, with all service records ect.. The only issue is that The O2 senors needed replaced. The guy replaced the top, but did not get to do the second under the tire area. So, the check engine light is on, and I cannot get it inspected until fixed. I drove it home from Virginia to Maryland yesterday and it was very smooth and didnt seem to have issue. My question is, should I take it to a Jaguar dealer to fix the issue? I would feel better especially in case the light proves to be another issue. Or, can any shop mechanic work on these and diagnose? I know I sound like a complete noob..because I am. I am not mechanically inclined. Although i do understand the basics. What is your opinion. Thank you kindly

I always offer as a suggestion...
Since you are new to the Jag, I always suggest tp individuals in your situation (as I was at one time), is to join their local Jaguar Club. The Jaguar Club offers numerous benefits, one being on where to take your particular Jaguar base on your particular need. You will find that the Jaguar Dealer might charge a lot more for repairs. Also, since they really haven't taken off like, let's say MBenz, Audi, etc., there are less dealers and less mechanics (at least in this part of Ohio), so if you select a dealer, you might have a longer wait time to get the repair done and the mechanic might....might mind you, may not be that knowledgeable. Good luck!

Dj,
Something to bear in mind. the X-type engine is the same in the Lincoln LS with just a few slight modifications. I have found my local Ford dealer very knowledgeable on My X. Plus armed with the information from here any reputable mechanic will be able to help you. Also if you are feeling brave we can even give you and/or show you where the threads are for step by step ways to fix it yourself. Also the best places to get the parts as they are not as hard to find or pricey as most people think.

Should I take it to a Jag dealer? No.
Find a local independent Jag guy. He'll get parts at cost, even good rebuilt parts. A Jag dealer will sell you new Jag parts at retail. And charge you crazy labor charges.
I've had my 02 2.5 now for over three years. It's been a great daily driver. Not necessarily fast, but comfortable and most Americans think it's a crazy fast super car! Ha...!

djpotential, in short, an o2 sensor is an o2 sensor. There is nothing special about our O2 sensors that any local mechanic can't figure out, especially the downstream sensors. For that matter, probably a local muffler shop could take care of you.
So, skip the dealership and find a shop that you feel comfortable with and go from there. Save you money in the long run for something fairly basic to have done.

Agreed. You don't need the dealer unless something needs to be reflashed like the TCM or something. Any reputable mechanic can work on it. In my experience most European shops will be comfortable doing the work, but any mechanic can handle the basics.. Most mechanics warranty their work for a year and they warranty the parts for the same period the manufacturer warranties it. So you can buy your own parts, often cheaper, and have the shop do the work. The warranty on the part is usually the same regardless. I was quoted 2.5 hours to replace the lower firewall O2 sensor at about $100 an hour, if that gives you and idea of non-dealer labor. Amazon has the O2 sensors you'd need for $70 a pop.
