Default Should my boot lift itself up?

Hi all,

just picked my 2.5 AWD and I'm pretty pleased with it. One question - on my S type, if I used the remote boot release, the boot would spring open. On the X type it unlocks, but then needs lifting up. Is that normal, or is there a gas strut defiency here?
thanks

Usually open an inch or so, just to clear the lock, if yours does not move at all then there are these

This was planned but did not work as hoped

Very interesting, thankyou. If a little dissapointing.

It seems we think that stronger gas struts would make it too hard to close, and yet the S Type does open itself using only the struts. I can't imagine the boot is so much lighter, but some research there is called for. I'll try and get myself next to one and compare.

I would press the trunk(boot) opener and the lid would not even open enough past the secondary position. I had to lift the lid while I was pressing the remote. I discovered I had the missing "trunk poppers" on the hinges. I replaced the poppers and a drop of oil on the hinges solved the problem. The lid doesn't open all the way up, but I don't like that when it is raining.

You put a 600N damper on one side and a 20mm spring this then lifts the boot about a foot. If you put 2 dampers and 2 springs on it will lift it all the way but it opens fast and shakes the boot a bit and probably weakens the hinges. Having it open about a foot is about right for me.
