Small Vibration on 2.5 X type
Happy 4th of July
I have a 04 X type with 81,000 miles on it .It has just developt a small vibration when driving and also when it is idling. You can feel it through the Accelarator pedal. It is a Manual transmission . When you coast in it is still there Had 2 drive shaft repalced about 10,000 miles ago . It seems like an engine vibration rather than a Drive shaft or T/C issue . Doed this engine have a Harmonic Balancer on it?
No Check engine light on or any codes.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
John.

John, yes, this engine has a harmonic balancer on it. But, if that was damaged or missing, you would know it. TRUST ME!!!!!! Odds are, you probably have a COP (Coil On Plug) that is starting to go and you are getting an incomplete combustion in one cylinder. This is common with the Ford motors. What I have found in the past that works with the Ford motors is to look at the top of the COPs (there's six on our motors, they are black boxes in the center of the valve covers) and look for any cracks in the tops. if you see a crack, replace that COP. The trick with our motors is that most of the COPs are hidden. So, a bit of creative looking may be necessary. Use of a flashlight will be necessary.
As for the motor mounts, you can do a visual on those too. The big thing you want to look for is any sort of crack in the rubber. if you suspect a crack, you will need to move the mount around and see if you can see the crack open up. As long as the crack does not open up, you are good. But, normally, if you look at the top part of the mount, you will see where the rubber has ripped. If I remember right, you have 4 mounts on this engine. Any one of these can cause what you are seeing.

I doesn't sound like a driveline issue if the vibration is there at idle. If it is not the motor mounts, you might then want to look at your belts and pulleys, could have a pulley bearing on its way out. Does it occur when the A/C is on and when it is off as well? Could have a fan balance issue.
Just guessing here.....
