Default Sold My X Type

After 10 years of ownership and considering that my car was in probably the best condition of its life, I came to the conclusion that this was probably the perfect time to sell. I decided to go for a full court press on the advertising and put the ad everywhere straight out of the gate. So Craigslist, Cars.com and the lowest cost Auto Trader but I paid the extra $20 to include Kelly Blue Book. Craigslist and Cars.com went live the day I posted and I had a full price buyer before the 24 hour wait for Auto Trader had elapsed. I lost track of how many calls and e-mails I received. I could have sold it several times over. The ad had 50 Looks on Cars.com alone.

My wife was near to tears when the buyer drove off with it. This is one of the most eye pleasing cars ever IMHO and I don't think that fact is lost on prospective buyers judging from the response I received. Car styles come and go but the X Type is timeless. For that we are missing it already but it was time.

Ok, so what comes next?

I went from X to S-Type two years ago and have never looked back. One of the last couple of cars (along with that vintage XJ) that really looks like a Jaguar!

Default Thanks for Sharing Your Story

I totally agree with you, your Wife, and the people who responded to your ad. The car is great looking! My Jaguar X-Type still gets appreciative looks and positive comments. The lines are timeless and the ride is great! I just can't say the same about the soon to be released XE. I have tried my best to be attracted to the look of that vehicle, but just can't do it. Thanks for sharing your story!

Not to offend but I bought a Mercedes C Class. This was one of the only cars that met our needs and was dimensionally similar to our X Type. The Jag lineup just didn't have what we needed. Audi and BMW didn't do it for me either.

Please let us know about your luck and satisfaction with it. They seem to be very nice cars and I think we would all be willing to own one someday.

So we will be very interested to hear about your experiences owning one.

I sold our 2000 S-Type for $800 more than I expected it to sell for in only 3 hours. I was always told Jags are a pain to sell.

I already know that's the only new current car that can replace my X type. It still has some character.

I am thinking about replacing my X with a 2013 C300 I really like the way they look inside and out. They come in AWD and the size is good for me. Plus, in 2013 they went to the 3.5 liter engine, so the performance is a little better; basically it is a detuned C350.

2013 was my target year also. Currently, 2013 cars are coming off lease and around here they are predominantly C250 models. I was initially interested in a C300 but they were all 2012 or older with more miles than I could tolerate. After driving a couple C250s I decided that a low mile CPO C250 with a 5 year unlimited miles warranty was worth more to me than an older car with a larger engine. Plus the turbo 4 really impressed me in the way it pushes this car along, much stronger than the 3.0 in my X Type. The MB dealer here was just superb. So far all I can say is I'm really impressed.

PAB--I've had Jags for many years and decided to try a used 2010 c class. After 6 months the dreaded EIS/ESL left me stranded. 35,000 miles and 1 month out of factory warranty the cost was $1900.00! If you look up EIS/ESL you will see me and many others that had this problem. Enough people for Mercedes to issue a recall. They will not be responsible for any of this because the car wasn't bought new. This problem was a manufacturer defect. I had it repaired and two days later I had traded in on a 335 BMW. I couldn't even look at the keys! The BMW is twice the car the c class is!
Do yourself a favor and look up the countless complaints about the EIS/ESL problem before you consider MB! They treated me and many others with arrogance and carelessness. Never again!
