Default Sounds of silence - speakers don't work

Cross posting from the S-Type list. The stereo/NAV units are the same so I'm checking with my old X-Type friends...

Not many response over the'ah... :-(

Something strange happened yesterday, the "radio" speakers stopped working but everything else seems fine. It happened when my wife was driving but she says that when it happened that she was only trying to change a preset station.

The car has the NAV unit and when I checked last night everything seems to be working fine, there is just no sound. I can change stations on the radio and the on-dash indicator correctly displays when I raise of lower the volume either with the control on the wheel or the knob on the dash.

Both the NAV and the CD player seem to be working fine, from what is displayed, there is just no sound produced by either. The mute/phone button on the wheel also "seems" to work fine because Mute On is displayed and it goes away when I hit the button again.

I tried looking for a system reset but I couldn't locate one from the MENU options that seemed to be what I was looking for.

Does anyone have any ideas or has this happened to anybody else.

Thanks

Something similar happened to me once where everything was working perfectly fine and then all of a sudden there was no sounds. What it turned out to be is my son borrowed my car and his big-assed sized 14 feet caught the fiber optic cable under the dash. I plugged it back in and all was good. Hope your problem is that simple.

The cable is between the steering column and the driver's door under the dash. If that would be the issue it should be really easy to see if it has come off of you have a look under there. It will also be apparent where to plug it back in as well.

Good luck.

X Type speakers have a habit of 'blowing'. Just the door speakers. Many guys here have had to replace the stock speakers. Personally I went for some Panasonics. Very happy with them.

Thanks, I'll look around for unplugged lines.

I was hoping there was a system reset feature that I could use to fully cycle the entire system. Guess not...
