Speedometer not working

Hello all I have a question for the masses. I have a 2002 3.0 x-type (US) car and the speedometer doesn’t work but the odometer however does still work. I also have the abs and check engine light on. Code comes up to miss matched wheel speed with no other code to point me in the direction of which axle ring or sensor that I should be checking out. Is there normally one wheel that the speedometer gets its info from or where should I maybe be looking instead

No, the code from a reader that can read "C" codes will tell you by number which wheel is the offending one(s). The speedometer uses an "average" of the individual wheel speeds to give the speedometer the info. If one sensor (or more) is not sending info correctly, you get the fault. The sensors also tell the correct module when to use anti-lock and DSC (if equipped).
For the speedometer to not be working, that indicates a few possibilities =
1. TWO or more wheel speed sensors have to be faulty.
2. Wiring to TWO or more speed sensors damaged.
3. Instrument cluster faulty

Ok thanks. I will run the codes in a few minutes and post what it says. I’ve been driving the car daily now for a few weeks and it might show something new. I read the thread that you had linked and my symptoms is the same as theirs. Speedometer sometimes might go to 10 mph but usually never moves and over the past few days the brake light sometimes comes on while driving then goes away after a restart and also miles are adding up like normal.

Well I took the wheels off and low and behold looking thru the hole in the top behind the wheel hub there was my rings at the edge of the cv joint and were cracked but loose and still there. So I took the axles out and used a grinder and cleaned all the rust off of the ring and the cv joint and used my mig and tacked them back on then made sure to grind away any high spots of weld so it wouldn’t hit the sensors. Reinstalled the axles and took the cat out for a spin and now I no longer have a abs or check engine light on and also my speedometer is WORKING!!! Hasn’t worked in 10 years of the past guys ownership and only took me 4 hours from start to finish.
