Sport Shift Setting

Sport Shift Setting
Hi fellas, new here but have been hanging on the "other" X-Type forum for a little while. But this one is more lively, so here I am... ;-)
Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows what the "S" button on the center console is for? I assume it is a "sport" shift setting that probably holds gears to higher RPM for performance reasons. There doesn't seem to be anything about it in the owner's manual.
Has anyone really been able to note any differences in the way the car drives when that button is set? I've tried it a bunch of times but couldn't really notice any differences.
Anyway my car is an '05 3.0 sedan with ~61K miles. Just had to have the transfer case replaced (under warranty luckily... ;-).
Cheers

PAB, welcome to the site. You will find a lot of information here about your vehicle. But, before we get too far into this, we do ask that you introduce yourself in the "New Member" forum. I think you will find this beneficial to your time here.
As for your question. yes, the "S" button is for the sport shifting of the tranny. You will really only see a change with fairly aggressive use of the throttle. Use of this feature will cause the tranny to shift at a higher RPM than non-sport use based on positioning of the throttle.
SO, sit back, grab a cup of Joe and see what you can learn about your car. You will find a lot of useful knowledge here and lots of people that are willing to help out fellow members. All we ask is that you return the favor and help out others when you can.
