*********** TRIED TO SCAM ME, SO THEY GOT SCAMMED BACK !
This is my first Jag. I got me a 04 X-Type 3.0 Sport with a Select Editon package. So I went to the local *********** here in Chicago, bc my xenons wereaiming down. They diagnosed the problem, saying it would cost me $900 to fix, bc they need some computer codes, and need new sensors, rods, and lines, and motors inside of each headlight so they can function. They charged me 2 diagnostic fees of $150 each, which was $300 in diagnostic charges, plus they say $900 to fix. I was like they are crazy, so I told them I wasnt paying a dime, since my car has warranty on it. So the guy left my keys on the table, and told his manager, I took my car keys and left without paying the $300 bill. Jaguars ***********s, are a rip-off. So its time to rip them off. The service advisor called me and says he was going to call the police if I dont bring my car backlol. I told him go right ahead.

Im going to go to a different *********** next time around. I was thinking on doing all my work myself, since the *********** are rip-offs even when you got warranty. Whats the purpose of having a warranty when they want you to pay out of pocket ?

I'm surprised the dealer was that way....Anyways, if they were out to screw you then the smart thing to do is to contact Jaguar ( I think there is a customer Service Phone number in your OM)and voice your concerns about that dealership not honoring the warranty...Something isn't adding up, because from what you say, you should have been covered 100%, unless your mileage is what threw you out of the warranty window.

What dealer? I live in Naperville and go to Patrick Jaguar. They have been very good to me the past 5 years I've owned the car. Oil change there was less than one at the toyota dealer down the street!
But $900 doesn't sound right. Is it anything like the halogen headlights where u just turn a screw to aim up or down?

Hey jagxtypeboy.........
Sounds like you aren't gonna get service from that dealer anymore! I appreciate your feelings about being ripped off but I dont think maybe you handled that as well as you might have. You should've at least discussed it further and asked why they were't covering you. There's also the distinct possibility that they will call the police and it could end up costing you more than $300.
Why not think about it and try contacting them to discuss it further?
Good luck

I say good for you! I used to go to Elmhurst auto group that is owned buy Patrick and they give me the same B.S. everytime I brought my car in. I allways had to call Select Edition myself to find out what was covered because according to Elmhurst nothing was and they wouldn't even call to check! Now I know to stay away from Howard too!
And those diag. charges are bs! I took my car to AC Imports in Palatine and got great service. Funny but the disagreed with everything that Elmhurst said plus they got my auto adjusting headlights working and also found the problems with my trans. when Elmhurst just kept charging me 120.00 for diag.and telling me that there was no problem. Also lied about the software being up to date. AC did'nt charge for any of it!! I would deffinetly go back there. You really should call Select Edition and find out if the work is covered or not. Then you can file a complaint if it is or come to some terms about the diag. cost if it isn't. But hey, You gave en hell!!

I never ever ever ever go to a Jaguar Dealer to get service. We have Jaguar Specialists here in Charlotte that are much much cheaper than the dealer, and they've been working on Jags for years.
Personally, if my headlights were aiming down, I'd fix that myself. I'm sure it can't be that hard to fix, especially if all they need is to be aimed properly, which takes about 5 mins a side to do.

the Xenons have motorized self levelling stuff. there aresensors on the front and rear suspension to detect squat and dive.
the system is very fast acting and you can see the lights levelling as you shift gears and brake.
Inside the headlight housings there are motors and some delicate plastic bits that move the light reflectors within the housings. Every time you turn the lights on, they should go through a cycle of down and up movement and then stop in the level position.
this level position can be adjusted like conventional lights, with adjustment screws. Just be careful, the xenons must never go above horizontal. they are bright and the aim is critical.
YOu need to start with some common sense and see if there is any movement when you turn the lights on, then check fuses, then listen for noise inside the housings.
My xenons did not move at all when i got the car, and they were stuck in a normal position, I did not know they were supposed to go through a movement cycle every time. When Jag replaced the GEM under the recall, they magically started working. I told them that they managed to fix the headlights with the recall (the recall is for turn signals not working properly)
- they just shrugged and stared and blinked....

I wasnt going to pay the *********** any money for some diagnostic fees $300 they are crazy. All they do is try to rip people off and steal their money. I have the Jaguar Select package on my car for 2 years. Why do I have to pay any fees. Jaguar select package says zero deductible. Good thing the Service Advisor left my key on the table so I can leave. I need to get my headlights fixed though. They need to aim up. Can someone help me ? Thanks

Howard Orloff is horrible man absolutly the worst dealer never go there.
I live in Rogers Park, but I go to school in Lincoln Park, so Howard is the most convienient for me to go there, but I went there for a key right after I bought my car last year, and they were just total dueschbags. never went again. I drive up to Imperial Motors in Willmette...FIRST CLASS Service. The manager of the service center is David, wonderful guy he knows my car inside out, recognized me over the phone, always gets the work done fast, never overcharges...usually undercharges. They even replaced one of my emblems for free.
Plus I occasionally had my car serviced at firestone, liek this weekend I got a new battery there, but he never even said anything about why I didn't just go to the dealer.
Plus I have mentioned before they once fixed a whole bunch of rust and exterior stuff on my car, it should have cost about 2000 dollars, but because my dad claims he never said to do 2 of the rust spots, they only charged us 600.
In case you don't know the place it's located on Green Bay Road

My dad's cousin actually owns Continental Motors, so he actually knows the guy who owns Howard Orloff. According to my 2nd cousin the owner hires stuck up sales assosiates to give an air of exclusiveness...And that's how the service department felt to.
I work in Retail, and I know if I talked to my customers the way we had been treated at Howard Orloff, I would have been fired on teh spot. An assosiate was so rude to my grandma back in 2001, that she was convinced not to buy an X type and instead went with a Sable from Joe Perillo.

See my thread in the S-Type Forum. Yeah I know the dealerships are complete rip-offs. Now I know why Jaguar is in the situation there in.They depreciate more than 60% in 2 years.I have the same problem my headlights are pointing low, but the dealership and select edition warranty refuses to cover them. Everyone I talked to that had the xenons for their S-Types have had this same problem, the auto adjust was broken internally inside the assembly. In Jaguar Select Edition coverage it states they do not cover "Headlamp Aiming". They know they have a problem but they wont fix it. So instead they will try to rip you off with crazy fixing prices, plus diagnostic charges. I dont blame you one bit refusing to pay them. I didnt pay them either after arguing with a idiot manger at the dealership. Now I see why people dont want a Jaguar. Only reason I bought one is because of the high performance model S-Type R I got a crazy deal on it. But Now Im on the verge of going back to Mercedes Benz, where I dont deal with these problems, and the dealership covers everything under CPO, and all my bills read $0 and no diag fees. The last person who owned my car all their bills were pretty much $250-$900 and the car has Select Edition Warranty. I seen very few $0 bills. Everything else they paid huge fees which included diagnostic charges.

frombenz your exagerating now 60 percent in 2 years My parents got a brand new 04 jag x-type in January 2005 stickered for $35k and bought it for $27k and after 2 years they got $22k for the car. You got to understand no car will you ever pay sticker price. Believe me or not. But I have been to many dealerships in my life and I know all the tricks and the negociating on cars.

^I know the car industry. You can get X-Types for really cheap prices at the auction, they are practically giving them away. Take a look at a Super V8. A 100K Car, now 34K I can pick them up for. Another Example Jaguar S-Type R 65K Car, and 05 I can pick up for 23K. 07 Jaguar
X-Type 3.0 with 2K miles, I can pick it up for 19K a car had a sticker of 35K. So your telling me a Jaguar doesnt loose 60% of its value in 2 years ? Go check the reports. Why you think people can pick up a used Jaguar for 11K ? Why because of Ford. These cars depreciate terribly its almost a laughable.

Frombenz we are talking different watys, your talking about auctions and I am talking about private sale man. Also you have your dealer license right, how did you get it, do you have a business location?
