Strange air-conditioner problem

I hope someone can help with this strange air-conditioner
problem. I just brought a 2001 X-Type Jaguar 3.0 SE and
after driving around 2 hours at around 110 kph I decided to
turn on the air-condition as it was getting warm – but it
would not blow any cold air even though all indicator light
where on. I tried turning it on and off and setting it at
its lowest temperature but the unit still did not blow out
any cold air.
But I think I might have something to shed a bit of light
onto the subject. I was forced to brake heavily and for a
few seconds I had cold air coming out of the vents, this
lasted for about five seconds and then ceased.
When I had a chance I tried it out again and the same thing
happened we had cold air again for about five seconds and
then it ceased.
The jerking motion of the heavy braking must have something
to do with why the air-conditioner will not “click” into
cold mode. I hope this helps a little bit in sorting out
this matter. As soon as I stopped and turned off the motor
and restarted again everything was fine.
This has happened on more than one occasion but only on long
drives. Around town and short drives the air-conditioner
works well.
Thanks in advance

You know..i hope someone has a good explanation for this....because when i bought my back then new 2005, the very first day she did what you mention.....never was able to figure it out. I would shut the car off, restart and everything would be fine.....she did that half dozen times in the summer months and dealer could never figure it out as well.....
other then that, she would work fine....

I am having somewhat the same problem - my 2003 S-type occasionally starts blowing hot air when the air conditioner is on. If I turn the control to the lowest setting (60 degrees), I then get cold air out of the center vent and hot air out of the side vents. I can get the whole system to "reset" if I turn off the engine, wait about 30 seconds, and then restart the engine. The air comes out of all vents cold then. My local Jaguar Dealer inspected it and found low freon. they added, freon, checked the freon for leaks (found none), but this situation of occasional hot air still happens, irregularly. I would really appreciate any solution which others have found to solve the problem.

I assume this problem should be a typical Jaguar problem considering recently I had same issue too ,what's even stranger was I had refilled the R134 according to its specs , it blew off verily cold ,I could not even turn A/C on all the time .
A few days later, it only begun to blow hot air as if there was not enough R134 into the system . Thankfully, that situation lasted only 1 day .
Nowadays, A/C works as it should

I had a similar issue when i bought my jaguar, it had turned out that the AC compressor had to be replaced. Only when the RPMs were high or the car was going fast is when cold air would be released. Go to autozone and get a bottle of the CFC(R134 Coolant) and make sure you get the one with the pressure gauge so you can see what you have, When i tested mine, it was in the "dangerous zone" as in too much coolant. IF it says your low, than just fill it up. If worst comes worst, just take back the collant and say you dont need it and that you need to replace the whole compressor. They will understand. Take it to jaguar if you must and they will look at the car for 100 bucks or so and give you their diagnostics.

I would like to check my a/c pressure as you mentioned, where is the low pressure port? On the passenger side against the firewall is two caps, which one is the low port (I would think the bottom one, but not sure). Also is there anything that I should be aware of when testing the pressure? If it turns out to be low, I would like to add the dye to find the leak, it says it is compatible with 134a, so maybe I would just top it up with the dye, if the pressure drops again it should show the leak.... any thoughts on this scenario of testing?
