Default Stuck in Park, yet not in Park?

Hi guys, can i ask a little advice about a gearbox issue? Had a search, but didn't see anything quite like this.

Auto gearbox won't come out of park ,but beeps as though it isn't in park when I turn it off.

More info:
If the car is in Park, 'P' is lit on the J-gate, car starts ok, but won't allow me to move the lever out of Park.
If I switch off, I can't turn the key far enough to release it, and it beeps to say it isn't in Park.
If I use the secret button to release it from Park, it works perfectly. Drive, Neutral, Reverse are fine - drove to the shops in fact.
Of course, when I got there I couldn't take the key out so I had to leave the key in the ignition...

No error codes shown, apart from the P1000 as I keep disconnecting the battery to get the key out.
Brake lights are confirmed to work.

I'm thinking the J-Gate is a bit borked, but any thoughts would be appreciated!

The brake switch is not telling the solenoid your foot is on the brake so it want release the lever.

Hi Vern, thanks for the reply.
I was thinking something like that too, but as far as I can see from the wiring diagram the brake switch message is sent over Canbus?
So if the lights come on it should have the signal? I can only find one brake on/off switch in the diagram.

Also how would that stop it releasing the key?

Just to update things, I found the problem.
The 'In Park' switch on the J-gate had snapped its mounting pins! Silly little pieces of plastic...
So it had shifted away from the stick a little too far and wasn't switching.
Glued back in place, with some plastic support behind it, seems good to go now!

The major signs:
NOSTART
New battery installed, START then immediate NOSTART
Battery 11.8 volts

First thing to do is take the battery back and ask the people who sold it to you to do a load test. They are likely to tell you that the battery needs to be charged first, and to come back later.

If it fails the load test, well, that's what warranties are for.

If, after charging, it passes the load test, reinstall it and see if the car starts. If not, check the voltage again. You may have a short somewhere that is draining the battery.

After having it towed a couple of times, I would be tempted to break the hook that keeps the shifter in Park.

Not sure if I posted this but got a new battery and put it in and it fired right up. Got it about half way home and then turned it off wouldn't crank. Got the car to crank again with the new battery on charge over night. A few days ago. Took the car and battery back to AutoZone and when they out a load in it you could hear the engine drop. The guy mentioned bad alternator. Got it back home took the battery positive and negative cables off and cleaned them put them back and still no crank. Turn the key. All light on dash on. Security light on for about 3 seconds then off.

Still no start,. No spin nada...

Still getting
Codes.:

P100 - I believe this is a " regular" codes everyone gets.
______
P1338 - regarding fuel pump module
P1637 - Can Link ECM/ABS control module.....
P1643 - Can Link Engine control module
P1699 - ECM / Climate control module
Can Link Engine control moduie / Network RCC malfunction. ....
