Default Style Comparison X-Type vs XJ8

I thought I'd share these pics of my X-Type parked next to an XJ8. Clearly, the X was modeled after this car, but put together in a tighter and sportier package. The X is a 2002, and the XJ is a 2001. Please forgive the low lighting coupled with cell phone camera quality. Would love to hear any thoughts!

Like I said, the lighting is shizzle. I have my rear bumper lined up with his. This shows that the X is a little shorter.

Rear ends in very poor light.

This shows the difference in length of the wheelbase. Recall, I set the rear bumpers even.

Rear wheels about the same position.

Rear bumpers set even.

Note that my X-Type is lowered all around with K&N springs at the time of these pics. So it's sitting about 1" lower than a stock X-type.

As much as I like the X308, it does look really old wouldn't stop me from getting one, though. Of course, it was approaching its end-of-life in when the X-Type was introduced.

But indeed, the X-Type was styled after the XJ, but was made smaller and more rounded, with the rear significantly curvier. For a more modern XJ, see the photo below (posted earlier by Cambo351); X350 XJR & X-Type, both in black:

The XJ8's nice, it looks more like a full size luxury car, where the X-Type looks a little more like a compact car next to it. The fronts look definitely similar. The XJ has more of that classic Jaguar look. The X-Type is definitely inspired by that. The back of the XJ8 reminds me of the Crown Victoria. I like that X-type in the last picture (Navy blue or black one).

True, and I'd say the X-type successfully brought the XJ/X308 design forward in time. Jag designers spent a lot of effort and sweat to get this design to look right while they added sexy curves to an aristocrat model car. The first thing I notice is how the windshield is raked back.

Both instantly recognisable as Jaguar with many shared design cues.

Current models are great cars but they are losing this basic marque identity which distinguishes Jaguar from other manufacturers.

Hey guys, I agree, and I figure, X-Type owners have one of the last recognizable Jaguars produced. It would be nice to buy a new Jag, but consider this F-Type. I'm sure it's fast and handles as good as my lowered X, but these are $69,000.

To me it looks like a cross btwn a Nissan 350Z and a Honda S2000.

Fortunately the XK still looks like a Jaguar...

$69K on up...saw one that was pushing closer to $100K with everything it had added on...

Oh...add Miata on steroids to the descriptor

(and before anyone piles on, I am NOT a fan of the more recent Miata designs and felt it has gotten much too bloated in the past 15 years...I preferred the classic purity of the NA's and still have my '91)
