The mounting hole in the middle looks different, I wouldn't try:

They are fairly rare, as they were a costly optional extra on most if not all early-year models. I searched for one for nearly a year before finding the one I now have, and even then it had black leather while I needed gray, but it's not prohibitively expensive to re-trim it. It's more important to find one with wood that matches your car, yet that bit still takes some luck.

If your upper dash colour (granite gray, sable, maybe some others) or veneer trim (bird's eye maple at least) wasn't discontinued when the steering wheel got updated in 2004, you can expand your search to those as well as it should be a direct swap. You'd need an airbag then too, though.

Do remember to try all sorts of keywords like "x-type steering wood", "x-type steering veneer", "x-type steering walnut" (even if you're not looking for walnut, people tend to mislabel veneers since they're not familiar with them), etc.

Also, do check the breakers that don't advertise on eBay. Breakers are the most likely source after all.

I seem to recall reading that someones X-Type had a circular hole, but can't remember where I saw it...However, all steering wheels I've seen for sale are with a hexagonal hole, and mine are as well.

Check there's nothing different with the airbag.

If you change it be sure to tell your insurer who likely won't care UNLESS you fail to tell them and then have an accident.

A valid point about the airbag, however unless you are upgrading to the later style steering wheel there should be no need to change the airbag from the original. I still have the original airbag on my car despite fitting a wood & leather steering wheel.
