Sunroof switch not working properly

Sunroof switch not working properly
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, was hoping for some help with an issue I'm having with my 2002 x-type. The sunroof switch will only operate the sunroof by pushing it forward. It will not respond at all to pushing it backward. In order to open the sunroof you need to hold the button forward which will cycle it through the tilt and open movements. The problem is that it won't stop automatically in any position so you have to guess when it's closed completely. I've used the search feature and found a couple of threads with instructions to reset everything but those haven't helped. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

RE: Sunroof switch not working properly
the roof "OPENS" both ways and "CLOSES" both ways.. what direction do you consider "OPEN" ?
I like to use the words TILT (UP and DOWN) and SLIDE (BACK and FORWARD)
or call the two places to push the button the front part and rear part.
It is a little ambiguous as to the right procedure to reset this.

RE: Sunroof switch not working properly
LOL...Bo,
TO reset the sunroof:
With the roof in its closed position, at rest. Key in, ignition on, hold the button forward as if you are going to tilt open. Keep holding for 20 seconds, then release and immediatly push the button the same direction (forward to tilt open) and keep holding. The roof should flip up and down then slide back all the way then will slide forward all the way to its closed position again.
If it keeps losing its memory, you will need to replace the sliding roof control module.
Hope this helps.

Picture sitting in the car with the sunroof closed. You push button forward to tilt the sunroof. Press and hold it this way for 20 seconds. Then release and immediately push and hold again the same way. Keep holding as the sunroof first will tilt on first push, then second push it will close, tilt, close, slide open, slide closed. At this point it is programmed. Sorry if I wasn't clear the first time around.

Caution With Your Sunroof.
Just a word of "caution" for the X-Type sunroof. I had the same experience of my sunroof not working properly. My mechanic told me the memory module needed to be replaced. I kept re-setting the roof and then one day...the sunroof went flying back into the roof of the vehicle. I mean WAY BACK Luckily, when I turned off the engine and then started the engine the sunroof came back into place and stopping properly. I have never opened the roof since. And; "Yes" I do live in Ohio. Good luck.
