Default Temp gauge readings

I don't know if anyone else has had this but I notice that the temp gauge goes up and down alot like in traffic it will sit at around 1/4 on the gauge but doing motorway speeds it will go up to around 1/3-1/2 on the gauge it may not be much to worry about but thought I'd put something up on here and ask

Doesn't sound right but I'm unsure what it hints at.

People will need car details!

It's a 2004 x type 2.0 diesel sport, I was thinking it's just a gauge problem as the car drives well just the gauge readings are all other the place
