Terrible scraping sound, with rattly buzz
Hey there!
I'll just get right to it.
At any time, when I put the car into reverse or drive when the car is stopped, there's a rattly buzzing sound that seems to come from the transmission side.
In the morning only, as I slowly move forward, there's a terrible scraping sound of dragging rattly sheet metal. This hideous sound goes away after warmig up, and doesn't return till the following day.
Torque convertor? Flex plate? Satan? I'm open to all suggestions. It looks like the X may be starting a rather spendy new year. I did not hear either sound till it got colder.
Thanks in advance!

I have narrowed it down to the heat shield on part of the exhaust.
The shield is loose and when the engine "moves" when shifting from park to drive/reverse the clearance is affected
i'll try and snap a pic later today of the offending shield

My car does the same thing, as soon as winter hits.

+1 to iownme. Those are a classic symptoms of a loose heat sheid. Check the heat shields between the bank 1 catalytic converter and the firewall. Reach down between the engine and firewall, or try rolling the front tires up onto ramps and reaching up from below, between the engine & firewall to find where it's loose, after the engine cools, of course.

Until i can get a pic....
You will find it by laying on your back under the car, its approx 12-24" behind the bumper, roughly in the center (wheel to wheel) and its "right there" no need to feel up into the engine... That info is "from what i remember last year" ... Lol
Its a slightly "L" shaped, dimpled tin sheild which wraps around (i think) the cat converter.
Grip it and see if its loose.

Sorry for the extremely belated reply, I simply didn't make time for this issue, as I became incredibly busy over the last few months.
Anyway, I replaced my front cat (which was bad and throwing a code) and tightened the loose heat shield, which was making the scraping dragging sound.
Thanks again!!!!!!
