Thanks for your HEADLAMP Help !!!
Hello to all, I'm a new member and came here not knowing much about forums. Thanks to all of you I have found solutions to the various issues a Jag produces. My most recent problem was a HeadLamp Adjustment Problem. I am now a HLCM (headlamp club member). Needless to say I had to purchase a new set of lamps for my '03 X-Type. As a result I have a passenger side Lamp that is in good condition and has the adjuster intack. If someone else has a need of the same, let me know. Thanks again for your help and input. Rob

Hey Disco, thanks for your post, there is an ajustment piece in the headlamp assembly that can break occasionally and the light lens will not stay in place. So the bulb will point upwards and bounce around. Yeah for plastic parts. eventually you will have to replace the assembly altogether. nothing short of removing the bumper to replace. I got a lot of advice from Admin and others on how to repair until I could get new assemblies.Attachment 5783

Off with Yer Bumbpers!
the bolts that attach the headlamp assembly are all underneath and behind the bumper - which includes the plastic finger that sticks up between the two sections of the headlight. The bumper is attached by screws under the fromt lip of the car, up inside the wheelwell where you can't even see 'em, and above the lights in the engine bay - not to mention the metal clips. look on jour JTIS disk - there are invaluable diagrams in there because you will never find 'em all on your own. I was able to loosen most of em enough to get a socket in there and wiggle the headlamp assembly out without removing all of the bolts on the other side of the car, but the bumper was wagging and flexing - I really should have removed the whole thing because it would have been less stressful than worrying about delaminating the plastic (luckily that didn't happen) and it would have taken less time to do.

If it is the broken plastic adjuster problem then yes there is a improved part available on ebay (search ebay motors for: "Jaguar X-type X type headlamp headlight repair kit adjuster").
Fairly easy fix, the only problems are:
1) getting the headlight unit out (tight space to work); and
2) separating the plastic lens from the headlight unit (takes a heat gun to melt the glue).

I can guarantee you will need new adjusters after any older headlamp is shipped. by the time it is banged around in the mail one or both will be broken. I just did one headlamp and after taking it apart and trying to save one adjuster that was good it shattered in my hands. Once they have been heated up for years they are like powder.
I just bought a set on ebay for $25. Also don't use a heatgun to get the lens off. Put the whole light after removing the bulbs in your oven at about 200 for a few minutes. It will soften the glue and you can pull it apart.
